Good evening wonderful folks at BITOG. Thinking of M1 HM or Maxlife full syn for next OCI on my 09' Camry. What are you folks experiences with the M1 HM? My Camrys consumption has slowed down from when I used the M1 0w30 last OCI. I'll change the PCV valve when the Toyota OEM arrives

Thank you

I'm running M1 10w30 HM early (65K motor) for seepage mainly - and it's beefy HTHS ...
Not a tick from that 5.3L ...

I'm thinking of the M1HM and I'm not burning or leaking oil so I'll replace pcv valve as it looks original

M1 HM is a fine oil but does little or nothing to lower consumption. MaxLife would be the answer for that. In a second place finish would be the Pennzoil HM oils.

Disagree with this.
M1 HM has been as effective in reducing consumption and leaks as Maxlife has been in my personal experience.
YMMV

I have MaxLife syn in my Infinti ATM. So far, so good. It's a shame there's no more moly in MaxLife products. M1 HM seems to have an unbeatable add pack.

If you're referring to ZDDP, remember that as of 1 December 2016 all ILSAC grades (claiming API SN) will be 800ppm or less phosphorus.

What about 40weights like 0w40 and 10w40? Sorry if it's dumb question

I've tried Pennzoil HM, M1 HM, Maxlife and SynPower Maxlife. Either Maxlife would be my choice as they were the only ones I saw noticeable results with.

If you dont have much consumption, go with the M1 HM. Just make sure that you use same oil for a few OCI's prior to gauging efficacy.

I know there are many Maxlife fans here and that's why I tried it in my Mercury sable which is leaking oil. Been told it's the main seal and quoted $800 to repair it. The maxlife did not help slow the leak but then I switched to M1 HM and it did slow the leak to barely noticeable now. Not sure what the difference is but M1 worked for my situation.

That only applies to 20 and 30 weight oils.

I never used M1 but I have used Max a bunch and it slowed down a rear main issue.
Max is cheaper if that matters.

That only applies to 20 and 30 weight oils.

Both the oils mentioned have the same zinc/phosphorous in 10w40 as the lower viscosity grades.

I vote for the M1. I usually love Valvoline products but for whatever reason, Maxlife full syn in our Toyota 3.3 v6 makes the valve train super loud. At idle it ticks pretty loud and from 1500-2500 RPM it sounds like a sewing machine from inside the car.

I ran it 2500 miles and then couldn't take it anymore. I changed it with Castrol Magnatec (I had it on hand) and it's been quiet and smooth since.

That being said, I've had great luck with regular red bottle Maxlife. Has slowed/stopped various leaks for me in older cars. I'm running it in our 2010 Impala now. I follow the OLM (about 6K miles average) and Maxlife has less burn off than others over the same interval.

My brother has a 97 Honda Civic with 305,000+ miles on it. He bought it in 2006 with around 90,000 miles. He used Pennzoil Platinum then Ultra up until a couple of years ago. It has been consuming a steady amount of oil. He wanted to try something different, so, he Mobil 1. After a couple OCI, the consumption was better than with the Pennzoil. This last change, Mobil 1 5W-30 High Mileage was used. With almost 3,000 miles on the oil, it has really lowered the consumption. Only added a few ounces the other day to keep it topped off at the full mark.

The Mobil 1 High Mileage may not work the same in different engines, but, in this case, it is really working.

I have two 5quart jugs of MObil super HM 10w40. Would that be a issue to use it up instead of return it?
