I prefer it in my Maxima 2009 (104k miles) due to its higher kv100 viscosity (was 11.9).
I checked today and was surprised to see it at 10cSt (M1 5w30 EP non HM is 10.6)
I am contemplating finding a thicker 5w30. I switched from M1 FS 0w40 in fear of ruining my cats 🐈🐈🐈 (my engine burns about half a quart to a quart in my 5k OCI, sump is 5.1q)

PP high milage is 11.4 but I use ck4/sn 5w30 that's 12. I'm going to try HPL oil next so doesn't shear down in my infiniti

Nice find! I looked at the rest of the M1 lineup and a couple of others changed too:
EP HM 0W20 went from 8.7 to 8.5
EP HM 5W20 went from 8.7 to 8.1

Non-EP M1 HM 5W30 remains at 11.9. Is that an option for you?

Castrol Edge HM 5w30, Viscosity, Kinematic 100C 11.3.
I thought so too. But when I bought some and did a VOA, I discovered the viscosity was 9.83. Then I went back to Castrol's site and noticed TWO PDS sheets from 2020. One of them is 9.9 (the one I bought). Then I looked a little closer and saw verbiage on the PDS about "reduced Phosphorus to protect catalytic converters" and on my bottle I saw similar verbiage. The other PDS for the 11.3 stuff says nothing about this. I went to Walmart and looked at all their EDGE HM bottles and they all have the same blurb.

I don't know where you would be able to find the 11.3 version of EDGE HM 5W30, but I couldn't find it anywhere local.

Data sheet from June 30th 2020 says , 11.3 , the data sheet from Jan 10th 2020 says 9.9. When did you have the test done ?

Maybe try the SP rated Pennzoil Platinum Euro 5w40.

.5qt is fine but if you want a thick 5w30 use PP Euro l 5w30. It is gas rated. 12.1cst @ 100°c. Ran it in my son's Volvo C30 for 7k-ish oci and it stayed on full, it was using about 1qt to 1.5qts/7k oci.

A half a quart, or even a whole quart, every 5k is nothing to worry about at all :D

You don't need special cat-friendly oil for that little burning. If it was a quart every 1k then it would be more of a concern.

Use the 0w40 and relax :)
