So, what’s the deal with not giving him clicks?
Youtube pays these people based on video traffic. Not just clicking, but how long you watch, if you watch the commercials, etc.

If you do watch they will end up in your feed - the algorithm will try to get you to watch more.

Its called clickbait. They give a provocative headline then make you sit through there chatter to get to the point. In case you ever wondered why people like Lake Speed takes forever to say something - its because he gets paid more if you watch longer.

Understood. I like the info that Lake is putting out there, and I do learn from him. So, I don’t mind giving him clicks, since the videos require time, effort, and money to produce. Not knocking you for not wanting to watch them. I understand. Some YouTubers get carried away and drag the videos on for 30+ minutes. And we all have our limit.

For most videos, I’ll turn the speed up to 1.5-2x depending on how fast the person talks.

Back to oil… I agree with most other posters here that between these two oils, you’ll probably not notice a difference in the majority of vehicles that call for their approvals.

Don't get me wrong, there are some tubers I make it a point to watch every video - and am happy to do so. Whip City Wrenchers would be one of those, for example. He provides a valuable service to the public.

For many reasons that have already been pointed out on this board, I believe Lake Speed over represents himself. There are other threads on that, so I will just leave it at that.

And? So you want the answer for free?

I didn't know BITOG was a free advertisement platform for Lake Speed Videos? Does BITOG get a cut if I click a direct link from within this forum? If so, then I would be more interested in doing so?

I think its reasonable to expect the member to give the premise of the video. Then if your interested in the details, you can go look. Or if not - then don't. I asked a question. The OP answered. Thats sort of how forums work - no?

Why are people (not the first comment like this I've seen) here so concerned with someone making money on YouTube is my question? He has some good videos that folks get something out of, for that he gets a few bucks. They are well put together. I post links to videos all the time...in fact I have a YouTube and gtetting close to being monetized, can't wait for my $1.45 I'll get my first month. I'd say BITOG is free advertisement for many products that are shared here all the time, again, so?

I have already spent too much time listening to Lake Speed Jr. Ramble on and tell me very little, so I have already contributed to his view rate.

Why is it so bad someone posts the information and lets people decide if its worth their time? That is the whole point of clickbait - they suck you in with something that is supposed to be Amazing, and then they ramble on forever and its time you never get back. Sounds like in this video he finally got to some conclusion at least. Still, 11 minutes to find out one is GTL, one is not, and the add pack is different. Could be very interesting to some. I presume they will still click the link, so no harm no foul.

As for other posts promoting products - that is true - but it usually stays in the walls of the forum. I recently asked for a specific ATF recommendation and many people posted their favorites - which was helpful because I could go look for myself. Or not.

Clickbait - yeah, I get it, I just usually forward to the end, obviously done for the way the pay out is determined with advertising and time viewed.

Remember YT sets up the monetization structure that us in part based on minimum run time. It's why most vids are no less than 10-11 mins

Private browser windows are a good way to keep your recommendation algorithm from being messed with.

As for Lake Speed Jr, his videos don't really qualify as clickbait. Within 3 minutes, he is already getting into details about base stocks and getting into oil analysis. That is way more in depth than almost any other YouTube channel when it comes to oil. He is posting a lot of really interesting information that you aren't going to find very many other places. Maybe you don't like his style, but I don't think it is fair to say his videos are clickbait.

Now Scotty Killmer would be an example of clickbait. He keeps posting videos about the end of his channel yet he is still here. His video thumbnails are misleading. He regularly posting videos saying to never buy this brand of car or product. I don't see any of those behaviors in this video.

I need to figure this stuff out....I just want 1000 subscribers...856 last I looked.
Use Google Trends in your favor, and figure out what are the trending automotive-related searches. Create videos about those subjects. Cater a little bit to the masses, it won't hurt, on the contrary, it will boost subscriber count. Answer common questions about motor oil, cold air intakes, oil catch cans, bigger & better brakes, turbo chargers, etc. The easier and more digestible your content, the more views and subscribers you will get.

Pretty good final round in Bradenton. Congratulations Erica.

Deleted. Saw the mod post a second too late.

but anyways - congrats T

I'll get all 4 of my employees to smash that subscribe.

It made my bitter tiny Grinch heart go pitty pat for a moment to see some argument for "it's both good oil and yet neither one is magick" in this thread.

Store brand toothpaste (QS) isn't made the same as Colgate (Penz), but most of it's just as good at keeping teeth healthy.

I'm not sure if the tikkytockers and the youtuberes get paid similarly, but we employ a girl here where I work that hit 30k subscribers a few weeks ago. Monetized. A buck.45 is a little low, but honestly, not by much.

@TiGeo , when you get that first check, you can definitely add extra Mac Sauce to your Big Mac. Congrats on getting there. Everyone thinks it's like you get paid like Tom Cruise for these things, but it's really not so.
100% and you have to keep doing content constantly or you're out.

Getting this thread back on topic...

Great news BITOG's! You can save around $3 or so buying a QS UP 5 qt jug at wal-mart instead of PP. The Quaker State Ultimate Protection 20,000 mile oil is using GTL base oil. And for those that claim you can't discern what type of base oils are used in the SDS that is not entirely true. (Fischer-Tropsche) is in fact GTL. There is no other products in QS lineup that uses GTL. They do not advertise using GTL on any of their products. Probably due to the fact they just started using it in this product & to sell at a cheaper cost than PP.

Here's QS lineup again if you scroll down you'll see them in a row.

Here's the Pennzoil products row.

The SDS below shows GTL in Quaker State Ultimate Protection 10w-30 20k Mile oil but there are other grades too.

Here's some cost differences.

https://www.walmart.com/ip/Pennzoil...671100541&athposb=-3&athena=true&athbdg=L1103

Pennzoil does offer more GTL products though (Platinum High Mileage etc.). A total of four while Quaker State just has one GTL product.
