LSJr. The TRUTH About Valvoline's BOLD Engine Cleaning Claims

I didn't say it was, but some people here have zero sense of skepticism when it comes to marketing, which I find to be odd for a "data driven" group.

I think it's funny that one of reasons people don't like Project Farm is due to the non-scientific/anecdotal nature of it but that's what the majority of BITOG is. There's a lot of random unrelatable data points, non-data and feelings.

LMAO

Well, Noack of 13.4% and a VI of 220 will give you some varnish LOL.

I’m sorry you feel that way.

The solipsistic one.

You've already lost that argument.

I'm one of the people who buys engine oil for their cars at Walmart.
All of my cars have been bought new, too.

2007 Nissan Altima bought new in Dec 2006.
Wife's 2008 Chrysler Crossfire bought new in Nov 2008.
My 2011 Mazda RX-8 bought new in 2011.
My wife's 2012 Fiat 500 Sport bought new in 2011.
My wife's 2012 Fiat 500 Abarth bought new in 2012.
My 2014 Mazda CX-5 bought new in 2013.
My 2015 Porsche Cayman that was custom ordered, and bought new in 2015.
My 2021 Alfa Romeo Giulia bought new in 2021.
My 2022 Alfa Romeo Stelvio bought new in 2022.

Hell, I could even add a few motorcycles bought new in that time frame where I'm bought oil at Walmart for them.

I'm pretty sure there are plenty of other BITOG members who have bought oil at Walmart for their new cars.
Do you think you're the exception or the rule?

If totally real, great to show results of the possible and I do believe to be true.

I just cringe for an oil/car guy to have that amount of varnish on the dipstick as well as dirty motor and faded headlights. Maybe that's just my OCD. None of my high mileage vehicles had or have it that bad. I totally get the convenience/benefits of dealer changes. When I'm gone unless my kids do it for themselves or my wife, their vehicles will probably wind up the same.

I also like the nice shiny all metal dipstick in a BITOG x-rated adult movie way. The stainless cable, orange plastic end in the Tucson is just wrong. My Pilot at least the stainless cable and metal end but still don't like it.

I'm doing the VRP in a hopefully "protect" way in FIL's Renegade with new motor. Hopefully keep everything free from the scored cylinders the old one got. It will also go in my Pilot next OCI since VCM is active and probably in Tucson just because.

Kids cars and my Accord will get what I have for stash (PP Euro L and M1) enhanced by a quart of HPL. My Accord is the only vehicle that seems to use any but that is a 6MT and probably beat more as well as most daily mileage. I had to top off with a 1/2 quart yesterday with 1800 miles on the OCI. Daughters CRV with 2600 on OCI has needed nothing. I might need to swap my PCV again after 60k just because it's easy and not expensive. Heck maybe I need to do a couple VRP OCI's in the Accord to try it. That gets about 3 OCI's per year and has been using probably about that rate since I got it with 49K on it, 4 years and 62k ago.

Yes. This place is 95% speculation and emotions.

Where'd you post them? I want to see.
I posted pictures of this Piston in response to another post a year or 2 ago, now they have their own post.

To be clear for the board these are not photos of a piston's using R & P & instead is from a small engine that you used "Whatever was laying around". Changing oil at 20-50 hours would not work for many in an automotive application. Not discrediting you & I do think it is noteworthy for what you've seen in that application.

Ya. Just to show what it's doing isn't anything special and would be unnecessary if people just stuck to reasonable oci.
Looks good, but not representative of all engines. Air-cooled honda engine heats up faster, less time below optimal operating temp. Does probably run hotter than an auto engine, no pvc system, engine physically smaller, so the entire thing heats up quick.

Right, Another dilemma is that I'd never want to change my 7.5 quarts of oil in my Volvo every 35 hours on avg when there is a product, like R&P, I can run the full interval & still clean it. 😅

Yeah it ran way the f hotter than a car engine when it was a pressure washer. It would run 4,000rpm, have a glowing red muffler and saw 280f oil temps.

That's why I said 20 to 50hr oil changes aren't practical and clearly 300+hr oil changes are far from ideal. And so a compromise is in order.

I watched this in full last night. The only thing I didn't like was where he was saying things like higher levels of manganese is definitive proof of better cleaning. Really?

Are we sure the oil itself doesn't contain any manganese, either as an additive or as a trace element?
Are we sure the testing procedure is 100% accurate every time? Was the manganese level verified with multiple tests?
Are we sure the gasoline used in the vehicle contained manganese?

Lots more steps to go through to prove anything. This video is absolutely nothing more than a commercial for Valvoline and LS's testing company.
