LSJr. The TRUTH About Valvoline's BOLD Engine Cleaning Claims

1 OCI from a GDI turbo with extended drains

Some more anecdotal evidence:

When asked if it was varnished up he said:

“yes some from heavy use of Mobil 1 EP and pushing it long intervals (11,000 mile intervals).

I have a hard time believing M1 EP causes varnish in 11,000 mile intervals unless it's an engine with a known defect (like VCM) that is especially hard on oil.

I do too, but this engine (apparently) is pretty hard on oil and his wife drives it daily. I was also skeptical of HPL showing carbon in filter after long term use of Mobil 1 per Overkill. But I believe both.

Hey! My car has 38,000 miles on it! Lol. Ive always changed my own oil. Walmart is cheaper.

Pay Subaru dealer $120 to change oil and tires? Or pay $50 for materials to diy the job?

I’m just an average middle class guy. All of my other high mileage pushrod v8 engines and diesel engines get the rotella t4 treatment from walley world ($16 per jug there or $40 per jug at autozone)

Is that 1.5 of yours known to run hotter than the norm? That wrecks havoc on oils and creates varnish environments

Lest we forget who he is funded by:

They were attacking it since it released, especially the HPL fanboys, it isn't going to stop now.
Cleaning isn't the only reason to use HPL (even though it seems to be a crowd favorite reason here). I am not attacking the Valvoline product, I'll likely start using it in my son's older Focus as it seems like a high-value product, but I wouldn't compare it directly to HPL based on the data I've collected using the HPL products which are excellent for those either wanting a long OCI oil or for me, 12 hours at 270 deg F on track...no way I'd use the Valvoline product for that use vs. HPL.

This is quite obtuse. It isn't like staff members like Molakule here are shilling for Pennzoil. With YouTube content creation, the goal for both the sponsor and the host of the show is to mutually benefit from positive PR spin for the product in question. The staff members here aren't getting paid to be brand ambassadors for anybody here but LSJ is.

So LSJR is a shill/shills for Penzoil b/c they are a sponsor of his channel? I haven't gotten that vibe. Do you know the ins/outs of LSJR's sponsorship deals b/c I certainly don't? If anything he is promoting HPL in many of his videos.

He's promoting anybody who gives him access or kickbacks is the point. They give him sponsorship or access to their facilities for content, and in return they get exposure on his growing channel. One hand washes the other. His channel is not a charity.

I understand how sponsorship works. Your assumption that his videos are shilling his sponsors products is not founded.

The varnish would indicate that the oil is not in fact capable of 10,000 mile intervals.
Right? Plus using the dipstick eye test to declare that Valvoline has done an excellent job with R&P?

But yeah, "science" and being impartial alright... His whole MO seems to be using "science" as a front to gain the attention and confidence of an audience, and then feeding them clickbait to game the channel.
