Tesla released the Model Y "Standard" today and surprised the market with the Model 3 "Standard".
The Y takes a lot away and reduces the price by $5K. Not sure if this cuts it, at least IMO.
The 3 takes less away and reduces the price by $5500. This is the way to go... It is lighter with a smaller battery but more efficient so it is still rated at 321 range and sub 6 second 0-60. The biggest flaw by far, IMO, is the screen controlled seat adjustment.

Plenty of videos out there if you want detail. And Tesla pricing is, apt to change, to put it one way.
The Model Y Std is a huge seller and I don't think the strippie is worth saving the $5K. No thank you, Elon.
The 3 Std, IMO, is the best EV deal out there, if a sedan fits your use case.

Apparently the turn signal stalks are coming back to all the Model 3s. Tesla caught a lotta flak for this one; undoubtedly lost some sales. It was only a matter of time.

You can now get a turn signal stalk installed on your recent Model 3 in Europe but it's an expensive upgrade, about $750 US. That does include a new steering wheel however. But that stalk only provides turn signals, no high beam flash or wiper controls.

New Model 3s, in Europe, will soon have this bare bones turn signal stalk included.

So my Model 3 should automatically become way more valuable having a turn signal stalk that does a whole lot of other things. Everything old is new again, even if it's not quite as good as it used to be.

The aftermarket to the rescue! I installed the S3XY stalks. I paid $400 I believe. Not cheap.

We can only hope that Tesla will come to their senses and revert to the previous Model 3's two stalks system. Not every change is an improvement.

If I had to replace my Model 3 I would seriously consider a used previous version in spite of the many improvements in the refreshed Model 3.

I sometimes wonder if the designers at Tesla are even "car guys". I assume they're young people and lots of young people today don't drive, don't have a license, don't know how to drive, and don't care.

My understanding is, only the turn signal stalk is coming back. The S3XY stalk could be used. Personally I rarely shift the car's direction; the car does it. And the screen swipe is simple and quick. But I think you are right. Bring 'em both back.

Decontenting a car and dropping the price isn't really dropping the price Mr. Musk.
Shrinkflation Tesla :ROFLMAO: .

I know, couldn't resist.

Trying to do the right thing and the right thing are different things. Clearly it will take a year of no rebate to see where the proper level actually is. Were still talking about a small sedan being $40K.

As a Self Driving System non user, I would find parallel parking using a screen swipe to change direction very awkward.

And don't get me started on getting out of a snow bank, where "rocking the car" (smoothly alternating changes of direction) is what's required.

Come on Tesla admit you goofed. Bring back the two stalk system to the Model 3. A big man can admit he/she was wrong. [And you were definitely wrong.]

Mind to tell a little bit more about how that works?
Once your seat belt is buckled and the doors are shut, touch the brake...
In the garage or in a parking space, the car assumes you want to back out. Once out of the driveway, the brake and straightening out the steering wheel shifts into drive.

You get pretty used to it. Since your cell is your key, the car unlocks and locks itself when you get close or walk away, and there is no "start" or "turn off", you basically get in and go. It my sound silly, but other cars seem so unnecessarily cluttered and full of stuff that you don't really need to do.

I wonder how it compares to the Ioniq 6 and Equinox EV.

They're all VERY different vehicles. For reference. I have a 2025 Equinox EV RS FWD and a 2025 Model 3 RWD.

If you want a comfortable EV SUV the Equinox is a great choice. It looks nice, is what I would consider "the perfect size" for many people, and GM has lots of EV experience - they've been doing it for a similar amount of time as Tesla. Main gripes are that it doesn't have Apple CarPlay and that it's FWD in 2WD form, and even if you get AWD, the bigger motor is in the front. I'd prefer if it was the other way around.

If you want a tech-forward zoomy car with a great mobile app and FSD, the Model 3 is awesome. Personally I don't think I'll ever have a car without FSD again. I use it every day.

I'm having a hard time figuring something out. When I got my 2025 Model 3 RWD "Long Range" it was the cheapest version of the Model 3 and came with what I would call "mediocre" sound system. The AWD and Performance variants have a better sound system.

Now that the configuration I have is considered "Premium RWD" did they give it the improved audio system and now only the "Standard" has the audio system from my car, or is what they're now calling the Premium RWD exactly the same as my car, just renamed?

I think I heard there are 7 speakers in the Standard version. When I had the '18 Mid Range (cheapest version) the different levels only difference was the drivetrain. The cars, including sound system, were the same.

So, when I bought my car, the RWD version had Standard audio and the AWD and Performance had Premium audio. I would have gladly paid $1K to have premium audio in my RWD car. I'm trying to understand how it's configured in the new lineup?

I bet you could add speakers to your car. The holes are there. Dunno for sure.

That's a good question. Glad @dogememe was able to help. I buy Teslas because they are made right up the road in Fremont. I don't know much about other EVs, to be honest.

It was indeed awesome buying an American car and picking it up the day after it got made right at the factory! Sadly many GM EVs are made in Mexico. Nothing against them but I like to support local. if anyone ever has any questions about either car I'm happy to answer them.

So Tesla reacts to declining sales with a less expensive but still desirable Model 3?
Seems like a sound way of responding to the market and helping sales.
Hate to say it, but for all of the cars' flaws, to most of us Tesla remains the gold standard in EVs.
