Low VII 5w30

OP,
yes I think about these things just like you and Gokhan do, and I too prefer less polymer VII in my oil.

But at the end of the day, oil is made for a mass market, not for you and me as a super boutique product. Yet it works fine, just look at all the old cars on the road.

I would love a PAO based, VII free, 5W30 (or 10W30) fortified with esters, AN and the best inorganic additives. In reality I'm happy with any name brand that is rated API SP, or Euro (ACEA) A3/B4 or A5/B5. It's all I really need.

If I want to chase more, I look for solid OEMs like MB229.5 / MB 229.51 or Porsche A40 or even Dexos etc. But SP really is enough for me.

1) Valvoline Advanced 5W30 (VII = 2.29%)
2) PPPP 5W30 (VII = 2.93%)
3) Quaker State Synthetic 5W30 (VII = 5.62%)
4) Castrol EDGE 5W30 (VII = 7.53%)
5) M1 5W30 (VII = 8.38%)

*I have a GDI engine and low VII's are important (along with lower NOACK) to keep intake valves clean .
**Above specs from SN+ rated synthetic oils - I would like to think SP oil ratings would be close .
No wonder I tend to default with Valvoline or Pennzoil. But oddly with Castrol Edge EP 0W-20, it meets MB and VW specs. I wonder how much VII is in that.

I thought that the ash level was the determining factor for keeping valves clean.

Your Hyundai forums suggest installing a catch can. Whole oil has the IVD buildup material.

Which VW approvals does Castrol Edge EP 0W-20 meet? I only see MB 229.71.
