Low oil pressure with dino?

Thanks. I have heard so much conflicting info and different opinions about flow and different filters that I am just going to swap out the AAP filter for the Purolator that I have been using for years. I'll get a quart of Maxlife and top off the oil and hopefully AAP will let me exhange the filters I bought last month. I never had any odd readings or any other problems with the Purolator. I only used the AAP filter because I knew it was made by Purolator and was said to contain a little less filtering media. Apparently it is enough of a difference to possibly have an adverse effect on my engine. It's not worth the extra money saved on the BOGO deal at AAP last month. Truth be told, it wasn't very easy to remove it with the grip surface anyway. I still had to use an oil filter wrench to remove it and even then the wrench was slipping. When I put it on the engine I only tightened it about 3/4 turn by hand, with no wrench at all. That part was easy to do with the grip surface. Now if I have this oil pressure reading trouble with a new Purolator, then I'll know I have a problem.

Another update here. I put a Purolator filter back on today, topped the oil off with about 3/4 quart of Maxlife and went for a drive. My oil pressure readings have returned to normal now. Even at 75 mph/2000 rpm on the interstate it reads just below the 3/4 mark, just like it always has. There is no erratic swinging of the needle during driving around town either. So I can only presume something about that AAP filter was throwing my pressure gauge off. Cheaper isn't always better I guess.

AAP was again good enough to let me exchange the AAP filters and pay the difference for a couple of Purolators. I really did appreciate that, because I bought them over 30 days ago and I didn't have the receipt. Good people at my local AAP store here.

Oil pressure gauge seems to be working fine. Is giving the same readings now as it did with Purolator filters before. For some unknown reason the AAP filters caused it not to read correctly. I am convinced it must have something to do with flow, whether it was too much or too little flow I have no idea. I am sure others here know much more about this problem than I ever will. All I know is in my particular engine, the AAP filter just didn't work very well.
