my newest source of info is Dr William Davis MD's great book UNDOCTORED telling you how to get healthy without modern medicine most of the time. he authored WheatBelly as well +
I've seen a few of his videos but avoiding wheat never seemed to make any difference for me.
It's carbs in general that I seem to feel better eating less of.
! Dr Ekburg notes in one of his great vids how fasting glucose can be good + even A1C
I've seen several of Dr Ekberg's videos but lost interest in him. He seems to me like just another wannabe youtube star, trying to get you to watch his videos so he can retire on the profits. I'm getting so about the only person I care to hear from on youtube any more is Dr Fung. But to each his own if you like Wheat Belly and Dr Ekberg.

I preached to my old childhood buddy about health gurus for decades and he ignored it all until last year, when all of a sudden he got real interested in Dr Gundry and his super strict diet regime.

Good read ... and why I say, you dont need a diet, just stop snacking and eating fried fatty food. Nothing wrong with using a diet to get you "there" but dieting should not be a lifelong solution. Changing your behavior is the key.

One light meal during the day and dinner. Fruit, Veggies and low fat protein. For a lite snack at night, low fat yogurt or low fat frozen yogurt bar. Few almonds or nuts, bakes potato chips, apple or orange. But there should be no snack allowed unless you are within your BMI

To me, anything else is an excuse and we need to be honest with ourselves, the whole "diet" thing is another scam, unlike the OP very few Americans stick with it for the ones that do its great and then hopefully transition to what should be a behavior change like above, resist the corporation junk food and temptation to graze on food all day long..
No fast food, snacking, no cookies, no cake, no ice cream, no potato chips, its all junk food for massive profits for shareholders of massive corporations.

Hey, Im American too and not perfect but after decades I got it right, now if I need to lose any weight I know I just have to stop eating so much fruit! No more corporation junk food!

Carbs are fuel for some of us we need more timing is everything. You gotta know what ones when and how much to keep you fueled and refueled. View attachment 69478
Carbs are sugar to the body which causes insulin spikes and insulin resistance. fat storage and extreme hunger. I haven eaten breakfast serial since high school. If I eat a bowl of cereal I am starving all day with a hunger that no matter what I eat does not satiate. Some researchers link the obesity and diabetes problems to the FDA food pyramid of carbs as the major food source.

One of Dr Fung's favorite foods are beans. So I added some beans. Beans are supposed to me one of the best foods for longevity.
Beans are high in SF / soluble fiber which is good for the liver and colon.
If you eat beans with a low fat meal, the SF will mop up fat soluble toxins in the GI tract.
Then you can eat fat 1.5 hours later or before you eat beans.

He also eats cooked and cooled white potatoes. I picked up some nice local potatoes Saturday.
But I plan to stay right around 50 to 100g of carbs per day.

People think I am strange [I am] , I hate potatoes. Even as a little kid I hated potatoes,.

I think I'm good with this for long term.
I was like an addict for fruit. I used to be that way about beer but I stopped it.
I bought a pkg of blueberries yesterday that I froze and will eat no more than about 4 berries 2 or 3x a week. I feel better burning fats instead of carbs and I'm learning more about Dr Fung on his forums. Plus I can do OMAD now easily, and my food bill is less, not only because I eat less foods, but because I'm no longer pigging out on fruit. (Fruit can be expensive if you eat a lot of it).
Low carb foods, IMO taste better than high carb foods. I've been on every way of eating there ever was in the last 40 years. I was on LCHF in the 80s because then it was all I could tolerate. Now I eat LCHF because I believe I'm truly better off eating this way. My moods improved, my sleep improved, I lost and am losing visceral fat, my food bill is less, foods taste better, and there are probably other reasons. My mouth waters when I eat now because I rediscovered my real hunger. I can now do OMAD which has improved my hormones and enabled me to stop eating without gorging.
LCHF / keto + OMAD are a great combination. I've done OMAD for most of 4 years now.
Keep up the great work Mr Luke! Also check out Dr. Cywes, The "Carb Addiction Doc". After seeing his and Dr Fung's videos, I went to a LCHF diet on May 1st, while different plans work for different people, LCHF and OMAD has worked for me brilliantly. I had used LCHF with good results on my A1C and cholseterol, but never lost much weight, Adding 2MAD then OMAD has finally solved the life long weight puzzle for me, with a 90+ pound weight loss since 5/1. Once I reach my metobolic and weight loss goals I will settle into 2MAD again, but it will always be low carb, and zero snacking. Our bodies do not need carbs to thrive!

How many total grams of carbs are you eating daily??

Steak and mashed potatoes was my favorite meal when I was a kid. With ketchup on the steak. I still do think it makes a good meal.

I could probably be fine with no potatoes at all.
I don't mind foods like cauliflower, broccoli, squash, salads, etc.
There is no point in eating carbs like potatoes when you enjoy low carb vegetables just as much.
It might help keep the visceral fat off of you.

Hi
Between 10and 30grams max in incidental carbs. Until I reach my weight loss goals I am eating only Carnivore/Keto, so no starchy foods or veggies either. I will have a salad now and then or a few beans in chili. Once I reach a healthy weight, I am looking forward to re-incorporating healthy veggies into a 2 meals day regimen. My days of pasta/pizza sweets are over forever though.

Not if you feel like dong OMAD and not over doing things.

I went back to eating beans every day. They're great for the elimination and they help increase bile and cleanse the gall bladder. Plus they taste good. I'm also eating cooked and cooled white potatoes for RS / resistant starch. Tomorrow I'm having a ground lamb burger on sourdough bread with lettuce, tomato, pickles, dressing, and mustard. They say you can eat RS foods without gaining weight, plus they feed the good bacteria in your GI tract. I have been and it seems to be working.
I fast clean for 22 hours a day on nothing but water. Then I have a reasonably sized feast and I'm done eating for another day. You can eat carbs as long as yo don't over do carbs, whether you're eating 1 or 2MAD. Plus activity level matters, age, and other things. I still eat plenty of low carb vegetables, but I also eat starches and legumes. When I start focusing of foods like meat, I have elimination problems and am quickly reminded to get back to eating legumes every day. Just remember if you do OMAD, to not eat huge meals. Eat until comfortably full and don't get carried away with fats and it will work out well.

I too have been continuing the OMAD daily with a 48-72 hour fast once a week to mix things up on my metabolism. The weight is coming off exceedingly slowly, lately as I approach the 100 pound milestone. I am trying to focus on the body healing itself after decades of neglect & abuse, rather than on the weight loss numbers. I too have elimination problems when I do strict carnivore, and I am having some beans and veggies when the opportunity arises. I think they are helping. The bottom ine is that everyone is different and what works well for one will not be the answer for another. I do need to find out about resistant starches, as I do not understand how cooling the starch protects us from the carbs. I think we can all agree that processed carbs and sugar are best avoided whenever possible.

I've been doing OMAD and high fat Keto for almost 5 years. I've lost substantial weight in the hundreds of pounds and completely reversed my Type-2 Diabetes and high cholesterol. I didn't count calories, only carbs. I will never eat another way again. The best part of this for me is the unlimited energy I have and that I'm never hungry. Even at my one time a day I do choose to eat. Most of these effects, including the blood sugar and high cholesterol happened in the first month to couple of months and the weight just steadily dropped off from there.

I also am now avoiding highly processed oils like vegetable, canola etc. Only cold pressed Olive Oil and saturated fats like butter, ghee, coconut oil. And no this doesn't raise your cholesterol. I have the blood work to prove it.

Sorry couldn't not chime in on this one... Cheers.

I was doing well until a month ago. I'm back at work, the kids are back in school and life's getting in the way of my OMAD and 3 walks a day. My lunch break is at 11AM and can't seem to resist snacking in when I get home from work. My wife prepares dinner for the kids and I find myself having dinner and a snack before bed. My will power has gone down the tubes and I've gained over 10 pounds in the last month. I need to snap out of it!

They say if people on the carnivore diet eat fattier cuts of meat, it supposedly improves elimination.
On the egg fast they recommend eating 1 TBS of butter or coconut oil for every egg you eat for some reason, probably to aid elimination.

health is the real goal + if you control insulin with proper foods + fasting you WILL be healthier!! many people know little about the foods they eat + how often to eat + although we are all slightly different where theres a will theres a way. 172 lb + prolly 5'4" in my teens, now 155 lb + 5'8 + low body fat, feeling good at 74 YO!!!

Started low carb (50 mg or less) in June and have lost 37 lbs. I've seen several benefits so far besides the weight loss; reduced bp meds, liver enzymes back to normal, huge decrease in triglycerides, better sleep, and a 1.5% increased fuel economy in my F150. Ok, the fuel increase may be a stretch, but the other are real. I've always had a sweet tooth, so that was a big challenge at first, but the cravings have decreased.
