Looking for feedback on a possible new F150 purchase

For a real world fuel economy rating on the newer GM DI 5.3 with 10-speed and no DFM, Dad’s 2022 routinely gets 18-19 putting around town and we achieved 22 driving it from Albany, NY to home (Buffalo area) doing 65-70MPH.

If I were shopping for a gasser ford, it would be a used 6.2L F-250, or 7.3 new. Anything else is a compromise of some sort where the value was diminished.
My brother is test driving a used 6.2 F150 Platinum 4wd for me tomorrow morning. Been eyeing the 6.2 F150's and received a price drop notification on this one that's the next town over from my brother (out of state for me though). Spoke with a friend that owns an independent Ford shop that does a bunch of fleet work. He's a fan of the 6.2's reliability even though he's a diesel guy.

Sorry about the slight thread highjack. 37k is a good price for a '23 OP, hope that one works out for you.

That looks to be a XL model it probably has the 3.3 NA engine.
The STX will get you the nicer sport fabric seats, matching color painted bumpers, and a 2.7 Ecoboost.
If you like it get it.

If I was buying an F150 new, I'd get an STX in Atlas Blue Metallic. The one here has a 5.5' bed, I'd try to find a 6.5'

That truck (the STX 4x4, 2.7L) is the best value going, for a number of reasons. In a nutshell, it has the mechanical package everyone wants, including the 36 gal tank, limited slip rear axle and 20 inch wheels, towing config and so on.

If you search on Autotrader, for new STX's, Nationwide, 4x4, SuperCrew, sort by price, you'll find them for as low as $42K and in any color you want for $44K.

Sadly, the 10 speed automatic 10R-80 is troublesome up to 2022 (improvements made in 2021 for the 2022 model year) but some still fail, and the class-action tried to add up to the 2023's as they contend that not all were fixed.

See if this link works for ya:

i wouldn’t be stuck dead in a ford product, but if i had to be, a 5.0 coyote powered half ton, or 7.3 gasser.

I know this is not proper data but the other day I did three check engine light scans on high mileage f150 5.0s all three had timing codes. So I wouldn’t spend extra for that engine

The salesman said it was the 2.7 but I suspect that it's just the low-end 3.3. We are texting now and we shall see...

I found the online ad and it is clearly the 3.3 V6 XL Trim. The description shows a -$750 credit for downgrading from the 2.7 Ecoboost. With respect to the OP's privacy, I'll refrain from identifying the location and dealer.

probably running 0/5w-20 their entire lives going off the OLM. with timing chains that long, a 5w-30/40 should be used. but again, i wouldn’t ever be caught dead owning one.

I have a similar - 2018 XL STX 2.7 eco 4x4 with the 36 gallon tank. Mine is a supercab. I do get a bit irritated with the truck at times but their formula … sigh … (having just been perusing Carmax tonight) gets a lot of things right.

I find the stock seats quite comfortable. Unlike many vehicles, the steering wheel is close centered to the seat (within half an inch, which is quite good today). It’s quiet at 70, the quietest vehicle I own. Air blows ice cold. There are a few dash rattles, but they started after a warranty repair where the dash came out. After adding a rear sway bar and playing with shocks, it handles very well. I did have to replace a bunch of broken plastic bits in my seat last year when it started sagging. I weigh 200.

I’ve posted elsewhere on the forum that I’m one of the folks who didn’t get a good copy of the transmission, and keep limping along with that.

I would still consider the v6 if you don’t tow heavy. Test drive it. The ecoboost is a great motor but there’s more to deal with under the hood.

Sadly, my love of the vehicle, and probably the brand has soured a little as a *long term* keeper due to the transmission in mine, but I also left Carmax tonight not having found anything I’d rather have.

For the program "issues" get the 10r80 tuned. It will make a world of difference. Don't complain about the trans programming until you do this. CCS or AMDP. 90% of the 10r's issues are tuning related.

The salesman got back to me later in the evening with a partial shot of the window sticker and it does have the 2.7 ecoboost engine but it was a demo truck and has 3100 miles on it. I consider that a used truck even though it's never been titled so I am going to pass on this one. It's probably still a decent deal but not a "fly across the country" and drive it home deal.

I'm actually just beginning my search and looking at all the options and wasn't ready to pull the trigger just yet anyway. I"m also still not sure if I want to buy new or used but I won't be spending 37k if I decide to go the used route. Thanks for all the input and recommendations, I appreciate it.

I'll throw out commonly used truck comment!
Buy a Ram
Interior is much nicer.
I would not be caught dead, driving a Ram. (unless it was free)

I hate looks of the front ends. Reminds me of a frowning face.

We all have different tastes, to each their own.

May I sneak in a Q?
Re Ausfahrt's picture in post #15: Those trailer wheels are oddly attractive compared to the usual 'rusty white spokes'.
>>>Do people steal them?<<<

I ask because trailer wheels are on my mind.

The short answer is no.

I have not had an issue with wheel theft but I live at the end of a dirt road in the middle of nowhere. I have made several long trips that required hotel stays and have not had any wheels stolen and I don't have wheel locks.

Thanks.
Do they have a name? Or, is there an acknowledged better brand?

A pal needs to fit 175 80 R13 trailer wheels to a pop-up trailer.
Sneak another? What trailer tires are good? Carlisle is the only name I've heard.

The trailer in that picture is an Aluma brand and the wheels came with it. In my experience, trailer tires dry rot before the tread wears out and don't feel like I could recommend a brand but you might want to ask that in the tire section.
