Had one of those angled ones and never liked it.
Don't want to spend a fortune. The Magpul basic is ok but like the pistol grip types most.
Any recommendations?

this is a good one aswell. Tapco got a bad wrap, but the glass filled nylon they used was primo tough.

Are you running a light? this will work well with a TRL1 on a pic rail

What is the reason you want the vertical grip (of what used to be called the "G-Money Grip"

No light. I can side mount one later if I want I imagine though.
I had this style installed and never liked it. So I'm thinking to try vertical style or none at all.

Vertical grips have their place. They can and do help with vertical recoil of all guns and help with the weight of heavier guns. A vertical grip require more use of the brachioradialis as opposed to just the bicep. In other words, one can stand in the high ready for a longer period of time, than without, typically.

In service, I found that any forward grip, raises the rifle of a point of support such as a wall or vehicle hood or the like, thusly increasing your silhouette projection to another person=not good.

They have their advantages and disadvantages like everything else. I run a vertical grip on one of my 308 semi autos, because it is heavy.....but only that one. Everything else is flat on the bottom, for the above mentioned reasons.

If you are on the fence, go with the cheapest one you can find at a gun show. Many military surplus guys will have one for 10 bucks. US GI Surplus.

Overall, for an AR15, I personally would not use one today, as back when it mattered, I ditched it. Good luck.

Excellent info. You were infantry or similar... just guessing.

I prefer those to the front grip.

All our issued M16/M4s had the broomstick @burbguy82 linked. I agree on all his points with the broomstick, it definitely helps you hold it up at-ready longer. A pro/con of it depending on the situation is the ability to use the broomstick as a hard point to rest the rifle on while still pointing forward. I slid mine all the way back towards the mag because I wanted to have the handguard open and to bring as much weight back towards my shoulder instead of out front. They helped more on the M16 because of its length.

My friend has that AFG style foregrip and I pass on that too, my hands don't comfortably grip it. I haven't tried the stubby brookstick though.

The really awkward position is the on broomsticks that go below the M203s.

I typically make my own. Standard two point sling, nothing fancy. Flat Milspec nylon. Black adjusters, etc https://www.strapworks.com/

at this site you can get 50 ft of 1'' milspec nylon, and some hardware, and make several slings, for much cheaper than buying them. Sorry, but thats all the help I can give on this subject.

I had a 1-2 point sling with an attachment that tightened around the castle nut with a hex key. A few guys had the castle nut that had the attachment on them but the armorer had them take it off when he started with us.
