Champion have a leaf spring AFAIK. Leaf spring is less reliable than coil spring.

I'm looking for filters with a coil spring, such as Baldwin, Hastings, Fleetguard, Premium Guard, and autostore housebrand filters made by Premium Guard (Oreilly Microgard Select, Advanced Auto Parts Carquest Premium, Carquest STP XL).

I also want silicon valve seal and filter gasket and 99% (absolute) filtration @ 30 microns or less than 30 microns.

So far it looks like only Premium Guard and autostore housebrand filters made by Premium Guard offer all that.

I like Purolator One for all of its qualities and specs, except it uses a leaf spring. So that's a bummer.

In future, my cousin and I will likely be using Premium Guard filters under PG brand name, or autostore housebrand name. Probably Oreilly since we already shop at Oreilly and I have an account there.

50% @ 21u is going to equate to around 99% @ 35-40u. Similar to the Purolator Boss efficiency, which shows 50@ @ 22u per their Spec Sheet.
 
NAPA Gold filter part # 1036 says 99% @ 30 microns. It has pink silicion ADBV seal and gasket. It looks like it might be a Purolator One or Premium Guard filter to my eyes. Does anyone know who makes it? NAPA does not provide much info.

I've been hearing lots conflicting info online about who currently makes NAPA Gold filters and whether they're good or not.

Who makes Valvoline oil filters and why aren't they more impressive? Am I missing something?

Baldwin specs for my B35-S long filter (that I use on my Buick) says 18 nominal, 40 absolutute. Wix 51036 says 21 nominal. Wix XP says nothing specific.

If I understand correctly, that means:
Baldwin 50% @ 18 microns
Baldwin 99% @ 40 micron
Wix 50% @ 21 microns
Wix 99% @ ? microns
Wix XP - no info on XP at Wix website.

Baldwin is better than Wix at 50%. So wouldn't that imply Baldwin is also better at 99%? If so, Wix 99% micron rating would be higher than Baldwin's 40 microns.

Using math interpolation to make an educated guess, I'm guessing Wix might be around 99%@47 microns. Whatever Wix is at 99%, I'll bet it's higher than 40 microns.

Yeah, the Wix if 50% @ 21u would probably be around 99% @ 40-45u. Similar to the Boss. None of those are a stellar efficiency, but the Baldwin is slightly better than the others. Just go get a MicroGard Select at O'Reilly like you mentioned earlier if you want better efficiency and the construction wants you are focused on - coil spring, silicone ADBV (and bonus silicone base gasket), holes in the center tube, qood manufacturing quality, thicker than average can thickness. I've went through this whole filter Whack-a-Mole new filter search exercise and landed on the Carquest Premium and MicroGard Select. And as you know, there are other branded Premium Guard built filters that are very similar to the Carquest Premium and MicroGard Select.

This time I used Baldwin again because I already bought it a month ago.

This time my cousin had me buy Purolator One for him because he didn't have time to wait for this thread to unfold.

Next time we'll buy Premium Guard from Amazon or locally buy Oreilly Microgard Select because Oreilly is close my home, or possibly NAPA Gold because NAPA is close to my cousin's home.

Are NAPA Gold oil filters currently made by Premium Guard?

Wix doesn't (and never has) disclosed 99% filtration specs for filters 51036 or 51036XP. At least none that I could find then or now.

So was Wix (in heyday) great for other specs, but not for filtration efficiency? How can a filter be great if it doesn't filter much? What am I missing here?

In its heyday Wix was known for excellent build quality. The XP was always a rock catcher and the regular Wix was around 99%@30 which is what I used. None of this matters today as Wix is no longer a filter I consider. In the auto industry Wix still lives on by reputation. Many shops still stock Wix not knowing the changes unfortunately.

@Carlostrece Another option that looks like it checks all your boxes are Pentius oil filters. They made in Korea, so if you’re looking for filters that are not made in a communist country, these are an option. They are readily available at Amazon.

Thread 'Pentius PLXL 7317 Initial Impressions vs Microgard Select'

I received a case of Pentius PLXL 7317 oil filters for Christmas!! Cost from Amazon was $52 or about $4.33 per filter. Packaging was good with no damage.

Pentius is a US company but the filters are made in South Korea with some kind of partnership with GM/Deawoo. Claimed efficiency is 99%@20 microns. Mileage rating is 10,000 miles.

I’ve looked over all 12 filters and I’m very impressed with the build quality. The threads are perfect and the filters are exceptionally clean. Silicone ADBV and gasket, holes in the center tube, and no excess glue. Compared to the Microgard Select they appear...

If so, that efficiency vs particle size curve looks similar to the OG Ultra seen in the Ascent ISO efficiency testing. And Motorking said a few times in this forum that the OG Ultra was 85% @ 5u.
