I received a case of Pentius PLXL 7317 oil filters for Christmas!! Cost from Amazon was $52 or about $4.33 per filter. Packaging was good with no damage.

Pentius is a US company but the filters are made in South Korea with some kind of partnership with GM/Deawoo. Claimed efficiency is 99%@20 microns. Mileage rating is 10,000 miles.

I’ve looked over all 12 filters and I’m very impressed with the build quality. The threads are perfect and the filters are exceptionally clean. Silicone ADBV and gasket, holes in the center tube, and no excess glue. Compared to the Microgard Select they appear almost identical down to the “leak tested” etched on the dome. I plan to do a c&p comparison in the future. Enjoy the pics in the meantime!!

There's some overlap between the two brands as you well already know. Good to know what other filters may be the same to give more buying options. Always wondered what the UFXL stood for (Ultra Flow Extended Life). They're putting the efficiency right on the box. If true then great! The PG guy I spoke to a while back stated the higher tier filters were high efficiency. Thanks & will wait for a future c&p.

I emailed them for some more detailed efficiency numbers. Waiting for a response. I know you had tried at one point.

Qty one Pentius PLXL 7317 on Amazon was $5.60 a 1.5 years ago (had it on my wish list then), now one off Amazon is $9.68. Case deal is definitely a bargain vs buying one at a time.

@Glenda W. ... could you please measure the diameter and length of the Pentius PLXL 7317. I'd like to see how close the diameter and length is to the 7317 OG Ultra and Titanium which I run on my cycle. Looking for an alternative to the OGs.

Are they marked made in SK? Because they look EXACTLY like the Vietnam made Premium Guards.
As mentioned made in Korea is on the boxes and on the filter decal. I agree they are almost identical. My gut says the companies are connected somehow but it’s been hard finding out how. In another thread someone mentioned both were/are OEM filter makers for Korean vehicles and possibly use the same manufacturing equipment/technology. Is it possible when GM dissolved Deawoo they sold off or split factories?

No problem. I’ll get that for you sometime today.

Some media pics to compare from WCW. To me the medias appear slightly different. Microgard Select and PG XL made filters seem to have more of a red tint. Both look great imo. What do you guys think?

Looking at the above photos the holes in the core look much more desirable than dealing with a filter that has louvres.

Case in point, the Purolator Boss I looked at yesterday had “alleged louvers” as it was difficult to tell if they were consistently open, even using a light.

Why not just use holes for the center core?

I've tried many times ... never any kind of response. Customer support is non-existent.
When I purchased my cases a year ago in 2 different sizes, I had a question about a filter size for another vehicle I wanted to use the UFXL on. I didn't send any emails, but did call the number posted on the Pentius website, & was able to get the answer I was looking for right then & there. She did have to put me on hold for a moment while she confirmed with a technical advisor. Not sure about more complex inquiries, but may be worth a shot to give them a ring. She was very polite & helpful.

We have had so much rain here in Charlotte area over last few days that I haven't been able to change oil in Mazda 3, which has the Pentius PLXL6607 filter. Weather is saying I can do it New Years Day morning, so that's my plan (we don't have new years plans till afternoon anyway.) Great way to start New Year!

I will do a C&P later that day. Happy New Year everyone!

Nice! I was very pleased with how both my UFXL C&P's, which I posted, looked. Enough so, I recently decided to get air filters, cabin, & fuel filters from Pentius off Amazon for my vehicles. They are considerably cheaper than the MicroGard Select I was getting from O'Reilly.
