All my Fords have the same statement. I try to run them halfway between the hatchure zone and the "F" in Full.

Now for OCI. My '95 F150 says 5000 miles for normal schedule, 3000 severe. Severe includes extensive idling, towing, severe dust, police, taxi, or delivery. For the 5.8 V8, 5w30 is preferred at all temperatures, but 10w30 is allowed above zero F. For the 4.9 I6 (mine), the 5.0 V8, and the 7.5 V8, 10w30 is preferred above zero F, 5w30 is preferred below zero, and 5w30 is allowed up to 60 F. I am running 10w40 year round, but do use a pan heater overnight in the winter.

1998 Chrysler Town & Country 3800 V6:

Normal driving conditions - 5w30 year around - change oil every 7,500 miles and the filter every 15,000 miles.

I run Mobil 1 full synthetic 5w30 the year around - change the oil and filter at 10,000 miles. Filter is Purolator Pure One.

150,000 miles and running strong.

That's what my '88 Mustang GT calls for...SF quality dino oil and 7500 mile OCI, non-severe service.

2002 Ranger 4x4 4.0L SOHC...5w-30, 5000 mile OCI for normal use. I do that using Mobil 1.

2003 Taurus Wagon 3.0L OHV...5w-20, 5000 mile OCI for normal use. Currently running M1 0w-20.

1987 ex-phone co. Astro 4.3L work beater, 125k...no manual, who knows, who cares?

Oil cap says 5w-30, dipstick says 10w-30.

Sounds like a good candidate for 10w40.

5w-30 is of course preferred for all temps, and 10w-30 can be used at temps over 0F.

Interesting observation I just made:
(pardon my four year old digicam)

According to my owners manual, the normal range right after an oil change is at the top of the hash marks or a little higher. The oil level can get to the F in full before engine damage/oil consumption is an issue. Now, I'll have to pull my dipstick tomorrow and see just where "Full" is on mine, but accoring to the graphic, I "can" add another quart-ish without causing problems.

Adding in the spec'd 5 quarts during a change brings the oil to the top of the hash marks.

I'd bet they put that in there figuring most people don't prefill the oil filter, resulting in a temporary higher level of oil in the pan before the engine has a chance to fill the filter.

2002 Mazda Protoge 2.0
schedule 1 (normal) 7500
Scheudle 2 (severe) 5000
5w-30

2003 Chevy Silverado 5.3L
Change according to the GM OLM. Or 3000 miles if used commercially. If the GM OLM is mistakenly reset, change oil 3000 miles since the last oil change. 5w-30

Like I made in a previous post these are recommendations only, not requirements. If you manufacturer recommends 5w20 and 3000 mile oil changes and you use 5w30 and 5000 mile changes their is nothing they can do to you. If you have an engine or transmision problem at anytime save some of the fluid and the filter to back you up in court if you have to.
