Lets talk about new vehicles

The last two CEO's of Ford has stated they are putting profits over volume. An XLT trim on a F-150 Crew cab can approach the $60,000 mark. I'm looking to buy but expect $12,000.00 off sticker in 12 to 18 months.I will wait. When the market normalizes-it's going to be interesting to see what happens across all manufacturers.
I noticed Mercedes is about 4-5k over sticker these days locally at least. A crazy market.
Im not seeing the big used car values though.

Might try a XL with options like STX package etc.
I got a option rich XL for a great price and it was a 250 with the 7.3
Even got the bed step bigger infotainment screen etc.
Wheel liners- remote start -bed liner etc

Well the prices have finally come down.
A ES AWD Outlander which was offered at full boat retail is now $3500 off and the dealer is matching a $500
offer. So to me it is the winner far cheaper than a Rogue or most at $26K out the door.
Almost double the Rogue warranty and many have liked the road manners better on the Mitsu.
I saw this deal one day only and they went right back to near MSRP- vehicle still on the lot.

L

Long time Ford Owner- have two late model ones now.
Their pricing is way off base with the competition. Sure they have more cash on the hood but as time
goes on Ford have lost reality of the current market. I dumped my Ford stock because of the above.
Ford today is a boring place to shop.
I would add GM to that BORING list too. The cheap gasoline has them all going full bore on Trucks and large SUV.
By next year, I predict that market will be GONE with gas prices rising. What then?

KIA has some fun cars now with the German-BMW insusion, but I still worry about the loose pin in those Korean grenades.

How bout that ACURA? you too set on the utility of a utility vehicle?

I am too "all-in" for boring though comfortable everyday cars - but I would forgo that utility for something very special.
But, I am married and the spouse will always have a CUV that I could borrow if needed.

I should have taken a photo of her Crosstrek with the hatch area loaded to the roof with a dozen large rough-sawn white pine
posts I was schlepping back from the sawmill up the street from my log cabin. A big 700lb load hanging out the hatch.
Silly, but it did the job.

Agreed. On a every day driver I'm open. Considered several sedans.
I have one local Subaru dealer. They are about impossible to deal with.
Bad attitude and a long history of a poor service department. This since the early 80's
The door is still open.

If they still made the outback with the 6 and a stick that would be the ticket.
But alas.
How 'bout a Jetta GLI with a stick

2021 GLI

As fast and quick as a big block FE 1968 Shelby GT 500 KR with a toploader.
can be had comfortably and well under 30 last I looked,
But Wrong Wheel Drive.

I still think the new Camaro SS or LT1 with a stick is the way to go,
That engine road KILLS the fraud coyote,
455HP 455lb-ft torque. That is breathred-on 427 Power,

I've had this item on my playroom wall next to my poster of Cate Blanchett.

GT 40 Replica

Accessible, though a stretch price (for me, for an automobile) and CAV make incredible robust replicas.
Now you will have something in the garage that is truly exciting to fire up and head off in.

Enough of these severe compromises to practicality at the great expense of enjoyment.

There won't be any cars left for you to buy by page 79 at this rate!

You don't want an ES anyway, definitely a higher trim level or two.

I did own a ES and SE
The ES is not bad. The only bad thing in 2014 was they skimped on the sound insulation on the ES. Very noticeable. I'd have to check that out and the laminated glass.

Im like CKN , not in a hurry as I do not like new vehicle pricing these days. Not too many fair deals right now. Plus minimum colors to choose from.

Just saw an ad on TV. for one of these AWD buggies. 40 MPG city! I Didn't know Yota revived the name :

I purchased one last month. The sloped rear reduces cargo capacity. It isn't as rugged as a RAV4 and emphasizes quietness and refinement over function and practicality. I am averaging 43MPGs in mixed driving. If l keep it in eco mode and drive conservatively in the city, l can hit 50MPG.
It is put together very well and assembled in Japan.

Joe, I didnt know Rav4 were any more rugged than your average compact car. Where is this ruggedness built in?
I see it in my Subaru with boxed lower front control arms and wide bushing spacing.
Does Toyota clamshell box their LCA? I dont have one in the driveway to crawl under anymore. We had a 2005 back before thiey turned into Soccer mom minivan replacement mobiles.

Congratulations. Nice ride.

But the engine doesn't look like this (from my previous post)

My good HS buddy has one from the previous generation, and he uses it as his "utility vehicle".
He is always singing its praises.

Enjoy!

Then live your retired years broke.
Why must it be either-or? Myself, I buy boring cars, but tend to get them new or nearly so. Others, they buy older more depreciated car that are higher class. This year I'll be both buying a new car and saving a good chunk to retirement.
