Hi

I am running M1 10w30, whole bottle of VSOT, and the recommended dose(s) of LC20 with FP60 in fuel.

This fill of M1 has not gone down one drop since it was first added. I suppose the VSOT has boosted the M1 to near GC viscosity levels as it seems to perform like GC.

I usually change filters @3000 miles. With that in mind, how much LC20 should go back in with the make up oil required by the filter change?

If you wait until the 3K mark to change the FF, then I would add one ounce of LC per quart again. Then top up with oil for the rest.

Hi

Thanks. That makes sense as now I think about it.

I guess the more volatile additives of LC20 "burn" off..so the dose would still be one oz.

I would add my 1-3 oz at 1k intervals until the change. I wouldn't worry about a few oz of overfill and use as directed if you want to keep the solvency and anti-oxidative qualities throughout the OCI. If the extra would burn off at the filter change, it would also have burned off from the initial fill in your app. but you indicated that it didn't so I see no reason for things to change in that regard. I do suspect that you've lost an oz or 2 but your stick isn't very sensative to small changes. I would also just add 2-3 oz at filter time and top off.

I cant imagine that there isnt space for one ounce... thats practically like peeing in the ocean...

Id just dribble it in and all is well. Pull the dipstick a few extra times before if it makes you feel better...

Hi

I added it as there did seem to be some room..but not much.

I will do a dilter change in a week or so..perhaps at 3500 miles.

Good question and when you do, do you prefill it? You're obviously somewhat anal about your oil habits which isn't a bad thing. If you change the filter that often without prefilling, you'll actually be spinning dry for a bit. I don't as I let others change mine but then I'm not quite this particlar. That combo of ingredients should be able to go 15k with a 7.5k filter change. LC will extend and a full bottle of VSOT will significantly raise the TBN. Have you considered using 1/2 bottle of VSOT instead and adding the rest slowly during the OCI with the LC. This will increase your top off issues however.

Hi

Since filters are cheap, and oil can be cheaper still...I usually do a 3-4 k filter change.

I've been following this basic formula for years and usually get 200-250k mi out of these 3800s before trade.

Yes, I do prefill the filter. Have been doing it since my 1970 IH Scout days. :-)

I hope you do not prefill the filter via the convenient and oh-so-tempting center hole, but use the peripherally located holes instead.

Hi

If you use the peripherally located holes..the oil just sits there and does not drain into the filter body.

I know because I just did a filter swap and tried your suggestion.
