I may just try a round of Kreen yet...

Next oil change is with Ultra for me, I may put Kreen in for the last 1,000-1,500 miles or so, then run a rinse cycle.

Where are you all getting your Kreen. only place I saw it was there website, is that the only way to get it ?

Yep, directly from Kano Labs. Might as well order some Aerokroil or Silikroil when you pick it up too.

Wondering if I should use Kreen in my 99 7.3. My concern is the new HPOP & Injectors. What worries me is that it would disolve crud that would "F" them up. Also I have a slight rear main seal leak Truck now has 348,000 mi. But I have always done 4,000 mi OCI. Any thoughts??
BTW I have been using Kroil for over 15yrs. and am familiar with the company.

Went thru a similar dilemma myself and ended up using Marvel Mystery Oil. I just put it in Friday night so we'll see how it goes...but, with your rear main seal leak, you might want to use Auto RX...

Another thought, I had a front seal leak when I first got my truck, I used engine cleaner and sprayed the grime away to have a cleaner working area to replace the seal and to my surprise, the seal all but stopped leaking..it now only seeps a little! Evidently there was some grime deforming the seal that was washed away and it sealed back up...I said all that to say that maybe using MMO first might wash out any grime on your rear seal since it will thin the oil a little..or, it could just leak more and not clean out anything, in which case I would go with the ARX at the next oil change.

This Kreen seems like it is some good stuff, but most of my reading about these engines say that they stay pretty darn clean with regular oil changes. How much Kreen would be recommended with our oil capacity..a quart? maybe two?...added to 13 qts of 15w40 shouldn't thin it past a 30 wt...and it might do the same and wash the seal off...but it is a little costlier...

I went with MMO to do a little cleaning and reduce the viscosity of my 15w40 a little for the cooler weather. I wasn't due for an oil change so I just dropped the oil filter, drained it, added 1 qt MMO in the filter and replaced it, started the motor for about a minute, shut it off, waited a few minutes and added MMO to get it to a good level - which ended up being 2.5 qts of MMO.

I got a lot of opinions saying nothing was needed except regular 5k oil changes to keep these engines clean...even got pics of engines opened for one reason or another that showed them to be real clean that had only had regular oil changes...so, chances are, our engines are fairly clean inside...your 4K OCIs should surely be good for keeping one pretty clean and the guy I bought mine from said he had done 3k oil changes (second owner but only 162K). I don't think a little extra cleaning will hurt especially if done during the colder months to compensate for the reduced viscosity so the injectors should run fine...???

I've never bought into MMO. although I like the coloring of their containers.
I've been thinking about what a diesel mechanic told me in 1985 when I bought my 1st diesel. If it's not broke don't "f" with it. ATF belongs in transmissions, not fuel tanks & if you think you hear a strange noise turn your radio up, then when something breaks , fix it.
So i guess I'll just leave well enuff alone

(1) Maintenance is always cheaper than repairs. Find the cause of that strange noise and fix it before it does a lot more damage.
(2) There are a few specific reasons to add a product to engine oil. If you have that problem, such as the need to remove old oil residue, the right compound will correct it. Otherwise, we can't home-brew better oil than the oil company chemists can mix to reach a certain price point. If you want better oil, buy better oil.

By the way, I've been factory trained by two diesel engine makers, and have worked on diesels ranging from small air-cooled, hand-cranked diesels up to diesels that produced 5,000 hp per cylinder.

At this time it seems that Kreen is the best bang for the buck for anyone that needs too clean up a dirty engine.

The other products seem too take a long time in cleaning up an engine and a few do not work as advertised.

I should have an update in a few weeks. I added Kreen about 800 miles ago to my E-150. Once I hit 1000 miles with the addition of Kreen I'll be dumping the oil. We shall see. This OCI was probably the most stop and go, short hops, and the most time spend idling since 1988 when I bought it. It was in a shop for repair and they forgot to turn it off, so it idled until it ran out of gas, I estimate about 10 gallons of fuel, and God only know how long it was on. Another reason why I prefer doing my own work, but that's another story.

Do keep us posted...

Would you guys ever add kreen to a John Deere tractor with a 20HP Kawasaki engine? I think it takes a little less then 2 quarts of oil. How much would you use? 2-3 oz?

This tractor has been sitting for a few years with old oil and I want to try cleaning it up(I am assuming it is dirty)... Maybe run it for an hour with the kreen then drain and refill. Its a friends tractor not mine. LOL...

Give Trav a PM, he should have some thoughts.

Man, my Saturn is sure running great after the Kreen treatment, I then put in PP for the Winter.
