Kreen Update:

Changed the Shell Rotella T6/Formula Shell Oil blend out today. 8,200 miles were logged on this fill with Kreen used in the last 1K+ miles.

The oil/Kreen mixture came out very fast and hot after a 40 minute Highway drive at 60+ MPH.

The mixture was very thin and very black and still had the Kreen aroma to the oil. The same with the oil filter with the filter mag. The oil flowed out fast and thin when draining the Bosch D+, oversized Filter.

IMO…Kreen must have done its job very well with the color and consistency of the oil. The Kreen product must have found some carbon, varnish and Krud somewhere to come out so dark. I bet the engine is very clean inside after the Kreen.

I refilled with the Strauss Auto, Full Synthetic, 5w-30, SM, GF-5 and another oversized filter…..the New Mobil 1, EP filter.

When filling the crankcase with the new oil I did notice something that did not happen before in my OCI’s.

The sump usually takes 6 quarts of oil with an oversized filter to bring it up to the full level but after the cleaning it now holds 6 and 2/3 quarts to reach the fill line on the dip stick.

IMO….the Kreen must have really thinned out the oil that usually remains up in the Galley’s and passage ways and that is why the oil drained out with a Fury when I opened up the hot drain plug on the pan. Nothing was left behind on this Oil Change and the usual oil that remains in the Galley’s and Passageways all drained down and out...during the oil change.

I just put 12oz in a new candidate, a 96 Subaru legacy AWD 2.2 with hydraulic lash adjuster noise.
97K one owner but has had a tick for a long time. I put Mobil Clean 5000 and a purolator classic.
10 min at idle and the tick was going away, another 5 min and it was gone completely. The car has not been started in 3 months but it started first turn and no noise.

Okay that is IT, I am buying some Kreen.

My 99 Camry has cold staring valve clatter (tick??) which goes away after few minutes. It has bucket and shims for valve adjustment and usually no adjustment is needed.

Would Kreen fix that noise? What dosage is recommended? I have just changed the oil in this car. It takes 3.8 quarts.

Thanks,
- Vikas

It all depends on the cause of the noise.

My friends 08 Silverado 5.3 was knocking a bit on startup and we Kreened the oil but had no effect at all. Then we put 16 oz in the gas tank and it was fixed in a couple of days of driving!

It's amazing stuff for CLEANING, so if that's what your engine needs it's the bomb!

No it wouldn't if that's where the noise is coming from, only a proper valve adjustment by measuring the clearance and using the correct shim will help.
If this a 4 cyl its an easy enough job, V6 is a bit of a PITA.

Yep the stuff is amazing on carbon, North*'s suffer from this cold carbon knock syndrome a lot. 16oz in the tank every 3 months or so keeps them silent and clean.
Great piston soak too!

Well after reading all of this thread I went to their site and ordered some Kreen. I got a gallon of it. I have a 5.3 Tahoe with a valve tick that MMO could not get rid of. Happens on startup and usually disappears when warm... sometimes. I am going to see how well this works. I have around 130,000+ miles on that truck so it is time for a good cleaning.

Thunderchild,

Make sure you use it in BOTH the fuel and the oil. The results will amaze you. I posted earlier in this thread how it made my oldest fleet truck go from a clattering pile of bolts to nearly silent at over 400k miles!!!

It works.

Hi SteveSRT8, I just completed a KREEN TREATMENT on my T4R and used the Kreen in my sump but not in my gasoline.

My reasoning was.....Since I use a mixture of TC-W3 and either Chevron Techron fuel system cleaner/Gumout Regane Fuel System cleaner....3 ounces of each to every Fill up of 14-15 gallons of gasoline....my fuel system is clean to begin with.

I wanted to save the Kreen for engine cleaning and IMO.....it more than did the job that I expected. Since I did a treatment on my engine....there is no real noticeable change. My engine runs about the same....I did not burn oil but most likely had varnish and carbon deposits somewhere with the dark brown oil and Kreen mix that came out after a 1,100 run of Kreen...98% High Speed Highway Driving and 2% city and stop and go driving.

Steve, will do and thanks for the advice! I am waiting on my delivery now.

I'm planning to order the stuff and use it just before I drop this current fill in the spring/summer.

So, that would mean about 7,000 miles on Ultra.

Any advantage in waiting to use it with fresh oil during a shorter 2,000-3,000 mile OCI or would the 1,000-1,500 miles driving with it added at the end of the current OCI suffice(also added to 1 full gas tank prior to changing)?

I would do it with fresh oil during a shorter OCI, that way you can see how good Kreen is working.

Another Kreen case study for you guys.

2 victims:

01 Silverado 4.8 w/150k

Steady diet of Castrol GTX 5w/30 since being bought brand new. Looks pretty sweet through the fill hole. Have had nothing done to motor. The only problem I have is a little bit of valve tick (even warmed up) and the well known cold startup knock (30-60 seconds) that these motors are famous for.

Put Kreen in at the 3k mark on a 4k OCI. I did not have an instant reaction and was a little disappointed but not surprised as I thought my engine was in very good shape.

At the 500 mile mark, the Kreen finally burned off. About that same time, I noticed the valve tick GONE. Not reduced but gone. I am thoroughly happy with just this one result.

I wasn't planning on using any in the gas tank. But after hearing someone else having success with silencing the knock. When I change my oil tomorrow (1 more Kreen treatment just to be sure), I am going to try it in the fuel system and hope for the best.

I know I am the new guy but this stuff really does work.

04 Cavalier 2.2 Ecotec 113K

This is the "permanent" girlfriends car. Most definitely a short tripper, cold start, and stomp the gas driven vehicle.

Regular oil changes and no major problems with engine. Aquired vehicle with 30k. Motor has always been a little noisy no matter what oil has been used. Main problem: looking through fill hole = Varnish City. Surprisingly, no varnish in the oil filter area. (No can, oil filter is on top of motor) Just in the fill hole.

Again, after the Kreen burn-off at 500 miles the motor quieted down very noticeably. Varnish has changed to a different shade of orange but still very evident. Not expecting big results on the varnish but I can tell it is working.

Kreen was added to a fresh OCI and now has about 1500 miles on it. I plan to do one more Kreen treatment and run it 1K more before doing another OCI.

I'll do another Kreen treatment in the near future when I make a long distance one way or round trip driving at highway speeds.

This way I know that the Kreen is circulating very fast through the engine at full engine temperature. I'll wait till the middle or end of the OCI to put the Kreen into the Sump at 3 ounces per quart of oil, with a full sump of oil.

While kreen does dilute the oil's viscosity it also burns off in most engines that run hot enough.

While it is evaporating it can also clean the PCV setup!

Sounds like a good plan to me! I did the something with my E-150, I waited until I had a job that was a good distance from home and added Kreen for the last 1,000 miles of the OCI.

I used MMO for cleaning up an engine or for PM during the winter months when having a thinner oil helps with cold starts. I think a Kreen clean up during the winter would be the best time of the year to do it as well. Less chance of flashing off quickly and improved cold weather starting, two pluses in my book for those of us who live in colder climates. JMO
