On my 95 BMW put in a new filter cartridge and added 1 quart of Kreen in six quarts of oil. The engine was hot and running when I poured in the Kreen. Engine started lightly ticking at idle. When lightly revved it was smooth. However, it continued to tick at hot idle. However it seemed to quieten down, a little, the longer it idled.
Actually I goofed. I should have used 16 oz not the full quart. For some reason I dumped the entire can of 32 oz. I assume I should not drive it. I think I had better drain about 2-3 quarts and then fill back up again with more 20w50. Then run 1K. I was in a rush. Stupid move.
I just drained 3 quarts of the Kreen/oil mix and added 3 new quarts of 20w50 Maxlife (same oil as this fill). I think I ended up with about the recommended dose of –2 to 3oz of Kreen for 6 quarts of oil. I not I have another quart of Kreen.
The Kreen/oil I drained out was evil smelling, thin feeling and already dirty looking. Glad I put in a new filter. BTW, there was no ticking and I swear the engine sounded smoother already
I think I am fine even if i wasted about 16oz of Kreen. I still plan to drive it 1,000 miles and change it unless advised otherwise.
Trav, Thanks for the advice.
