Kreen Update

On my 95 BMW put in a new filter cartridge and added 1 quart of Kreen in six quarts of oil. The engine was hot and running when I poured in the Kreen. Engine started lightly ticking at idle. When lightly revved it was smooth. However, it continued to tick at hot idle. However it seemed to quieten down, a little, the longer it idled.

Actually I goofed. I should have used 16 oz not the full quart. For some reason I dumped the entire can of 32 oz. I assume I should not drive it. I think I had better drain about 2-3 quarts and then fill back up again with more 20w50. Then run 1K. I was in a rush. Stupid move.

I just drained 3 quarts of the Kreen/oil mix and added 3 new quarts of 20w50 Maxlife (same oil as this fill). I think I ended up with about the recommended dose of –2 to 3oz of Kreen for 6 quarts of oil. I not I have another quart of Kreen.

The Kreen/oil I drained out was evil smelling, thin feeling and already dirty looking. Glad I put in a new filter. BTW, there was no ticking and I swear the engine sounded smoother already

I think I am fine even if i wasted about 16oz of Kreen. I still plan to drive it 1,000 miles and change it unless advised otherwise.

Trav, Thanks for the advice.

You welcome Russell. Any advise i can give is only based on my own experiences, the more people that use it and post what's happening is a big help.

I am not surprised the ticking stopped, this stuff seems to rid the engine of sticky varnish really quick. Keep us posted on the progress.

That can NOT be good :-( But since you corrected that quickly, everything should be OK.

The warm ticking was very similar to the ticking i get after I have about 3,500 miles on a fill. Change oil and all is fine. i may have a leaking injector that dilutes the oil.

Kreen also states it can be used as a fast flush. 1qt run at idle for 1 hour.
At that dosage i think if there is a lot of varnish being disolved ticking noises could almost be expected if the engine uses hydraulic lifters/lash adjusters.

Just received the quart can of Kreen; there are NO instructions on it as far as dosage is concerned. It only says put a pint in the oil and pint in the gas tank. The paper stick-on label (crooked too) on the can looks utterly unprofessional. Now I am wondering if this is being done intentionally to give that folksy feeling. I can not imagine that this company can not afford to silk screening on the quart can.

I have to agree with that. On the other hand Kano products are not a really a retail product that is sold in every parts store or Walmart.

The can is a horrible design but it seems like this is the way they have done it forever and probably wont change any time soon.
That being said some prescriptions are in a generic plastic bottle but contain very powerful drugs, the retail OTC pain killers has more info and fancy packaging and are basically ineffective in comparison to the RX versions.

IMHO lets concentrate on the products effectiveness and not the can.

I got a crooked label on a Walgreens prescription once.

The medicine inside was still effective!

On a side note, it seems as it boils off in a hot crankcase it also cleans the PCV system! Seems to have done a lot of good and nothing bad.

Still impressed here. I like results, I like them even better when they happen quickly.

That is all that matters. It's what's inside that counts. So far all the Kreen feedback has been great, another solid product IMO.

A question. Is the quart container/can resealable or do you have to use it at once?

Got my Kreen invoice today. The shipping via Fe-Ex was $8.85 to send two quarts of Kreen and a free aerosol of AeroKroil from Nashville, TN to Lexington, KY. I know one state, I thought shipping was reasonable.

I got it today.

The good news: the label on the cans describes a procedure for both piston soak and oil flush. If I knew that before, I would not purchase BG109 for a flush. The piston soak is very good news as the GM solution for piston soak is not available anymore and I was planning to try kreen anyway. Good to know it works.

The procedure is a bit different compared to that I did with MMO. One is supposed to use 1oz per cylinder, put plugs in, crank, and then soak overnight. I would be more comfortable to soak overnight first, evacuate, and later crank with plugs in place (this is what I did with MMO).

The bad news: the send me a free can of floway, but I ordered a free can of airkroll. The invoice didn't say how much I paid for S&H. I guess I will call them.

You can still get the 2 Aero kroil for $12 with $5.95 shipping deal.

Also there is the NED deal. 2 King siz cans of AeroKroil for $12 shipped. I think I called it the TED deal a few posts ago. Not sure what NED is, but I did it before I saw they had a Google deal a few months ago.
