Knew I Should Not Have Went With Pennzoil Ultra

Distributors are a very under utilized resource by your neighbors to the south. Below are a few who operate in Iowa hope the OP reads this.

Switch to PP, Ultra only cleans a tad better so why lose sleep over it? Looking inside the oil cap, I can see my engine is spotless as far as the light will shine with the Platinum in there working away. My engine was full of varnish when I got it so you know the oil's doing something right.

I'm in the same boat as you, I'd love to run Ultra, but refuse to go out of my way to get it and want to have something in my crankcase that's easy to get in case I need to add makeup oil traveling and whatnot. PP can be found virtually anywhere and it's darn good oil so I use it with the utmost confidence.

Thanks all, know its splitting hairs and and does not make much difference which top tier oils you go with if you are going to be trading before 300k any way. Not exactly saying I could go to supertech......(yet). But changing at 5k miles anyway know I could just go with whatever is on sale.

Just had studied a ton (moly, boron, zinc, tbn, mrv, cst), splitting hairs here is what we do.

Never ran Quaker State Ultimate durability, its everywhere as much as PP and also made by same company to boot. NOACK looks pretty darned good also. Dexos 1 is also a pretty good designator also (not European good but pretty darned good) for a latest standard.

Regards.

Regular pens plat works well also don't have to run ultra really, honestly I'm moving away from penz for one change to see wear numbers on a "designer" oil like motul or amsoil.

All yellow?
Is that same color for all flavors, good for business or bad?

There will be purchasers at the register wanting to know why it's costing them $30 for a jug of Pennzoil (that they always considered to be conventional).

Those people always get into the line, right ahead of me.

It's all in the LABELING!, granted there will be a few who just go thru and grab a yellow jug and get surprised at the checkout counter.

I almost did something like that just a few weeks ago. Went into the local Walmart to grab regular Platinum for my Civic and High Mileage Platinum for my Camry. Walked straight past all of the Pennzoil looking for the silver jugs. Stood there like an idiot for a minute before I realized they were all in yellow bottles now.

I was wondering why they went crazy shelving the conventional...

At least Mobil1 Extended Performance oil is a premium product (like Pennz Ultra) that is consistently easily available and cheap. Dump Pennz Ultra and use that.

I loved the way Ultra sounded and ran in the Malibu, but when I went to buy it I couldn't locate it without paying an outrageous price.

At least both cars are on the same exact oil now.

What I used to do was whenever I see them on sale on Amazon/Walmart for $28.xx, I'd just stock up and buy at least 2 OCI worth of oil for PUP when I feel like running the oil. By the time I'm ready to do the 2nd oil change, it'll come back on sale.

I do something similar. In my case I'll buy a two year supply. I've nailed it on a WMT rollback with rebates in play, bringing the cost down even more.

No
Lexus is not a Toyota. Accura is not a Honda. Cadillac is not a Chevy.

What is the same is ownership of both...... that being SOPUS. Do a Google search on them.

When Ultra first came out I was one of the first ones to jump all over it, but it didn't take long for Walmart and Canadian Tire up here to stop carrying it, so I got fed up and switched to Mobil 1 for all my vehicles and never looked back. I think Pennzoil dropped the ball big time with this oil, they should have marketed it way better and made it more readily available.

I agree, and it's a shame. I have the patience to wait for WMT to get it in stock for sale online. I buy a 2 year supply, give or take, but I can see how that patience can easily wear off.

I wish Pennzoil would read these threads and listen. It might actually help them sell more of their top of the line product.
