Keep car windows frost free w/ vinegar

The acetic acid will eventually eat away at the metal around the window. Stuff is not all that volatile (relatively speaking) and will migrate down over time.

Don't most/all cars have front & rear defrosters these days?
I just run out and turn them on about 5 min before I leave, what's so hard about that?

You let your car idle for that long? There's talk on another site that that makes rod bearings flat on one side, and he swears he knows what he's talking about.

What site? I love internet experts. The last good internet expert was a hotrodder that said amsoil contained no ZDP.

Its in the autoforums.com by make kiaforums.com under model rio 1st generation thread "What are you doing to your car". The guys deployed to Afghanistan and does seem to know bunches about building a racer but also has some ideas that are sure different, course the same can be said of me. Please understand , he's one of our finist serving our country.

I found it under "Idling issue"

Here's a quote perhaps we should post this in the general automotive section and discuss. The OP is clearly young and posts to quickly. He should proof all of his posts before posting.

Quote:
when you take an engine apart and you have excessive wear or more wear on the bottom half of the bearing that is from an engine that did alot of idleing.

we have an 2003 Elantra and a 1997 Tbird that we have always done that with and both around 140k miles with just 1 repair each (which are totally unrelated to idling, IMO)...so i highly doubt idling for 5 min in a COLD near freezing weather hasn't hurt anything. Both cars are in great shape.

Yeah, that is hard to believe. That is like what someone told me once that the Mopar slant six wasn't as good as the old flathead six because the pistons wore out on one side because of the slant!

Ya, forgot all about that, I remember that was all the talk back in the old days. Funny thing was the nobody ever said the same thing about the flat VW or Corvair engines.

Exactly! Or V6 and V8 engines for that matter...

Im in for a rude awakening then, along with the other half of people in Milwaukee, WI that start their cars early in the winter. I will start my truck up to 15 minutes early to let it get warmed up in the winter, and I leave it running when I make a short stop somewhere. I figured it was hard on an engine and transmission to drive it when it was 0 degrees without letting it warm up. On a cold day, you can drive down the street and see all the neighbors with the garage doors open, and engines idling.
