Most of my guns sit in a safe. I don't see the problem as long as you have at least one available. My carry gun is my Sig P239 if that makes any difference?

I learned the hard way when I had 4 stolen from me (luckily that number wasn't higher).

Now I'm thinking of getting a nice small .380 auto, .357 Sig, 9mm, .40 S&W, .45 ACP. Gunshow in about a week in Indy

I love my Glock 27 (sub-compact .40). I shoot it better than any of my full size Glock's. Not the smallest, thinnest, lightest sub-compact but a great carry option for me in the winter.

Bear in mind I'm essentially new to shooting (last time I shot on any semi-regular basis was 20 years ago with a 92FS)

15 feet from the target shooting 130 grain 38 Special jacketted target ammo. I'm not sure where those 3 in the lower left came from

Those who have .380, 9mm, .40 and .45 all report how bucky my lil LCR is.

BobFout....I am getting two LCR's next month (one for me, and one for the girlfriend). How do you like the trigger? Is it as smooth as they say it is? Did the weapon cause any hand soreness after firing? The grip I will have will be the less padded laser ones. I am hoping that my girlfriend will not be too put off from the less padded grips.....but she wants the laser.

The trigger is great!

No hand soreness with 38 Special target loads (not sure if I've shot any home defense loads). Other than my not holding tight enough onto it when I shot some +P loads and scraped he skin off my thumb.

Keep practicing until you can group as well as you did except at 15 yards instead of 15 feet and with +P defense loads. The LCR has a great trigger, but it still takes a lot of practice to shoot DAO accurately.

G-man, I have no intention of shooting an attacker from 15 yards

I'd be happy with a 4 to 6 inch grouping at 15 feet.

Seeing how much recoil there was with home defense +P loads, I'm sticking with home defense 38 Special for now.

The better you can control the point of impact at 15 yards will make you a better shot at more realistic self-defense distances. In a SD scenario your fine motor skills will go out the window and you need to be familiar enough with your gun to accurately point shoot rather than aim. The only way to get that familiar is routine target practice at 12 to 15 yards combined with some close up rapid fire point shooting.

Here is a target where I emptied the cylinder as fast as I could pull the trigger at 7 yards, point shooting:

Hopefully its okay to comment on my LCR trigger. I've got a S&W 638 and Taurus 85 but have shot quite a few snubbies and the LCR does have a real nice trigger. Better than any other snub nose revolver I've shot over the years..

And I agree with G-man here, shooting at 7 feet is okay but do get some practice at longer distances. Bump it up to 10 yards and then 15. It WILL help you.

Take care, Bill

Don't let size fool you in comparing these two rounds. The 38 Special was originally designed as a blackpowder cartridge and for the most part even modern loads are only little hotter than old BP ballistics. The 380 was designed for smokeless powder and while it has a much smaller case its ballistics nearly match the 38 Special. Of course, if you load the 38 Special up to near 357 Magnum levels there is no comparison.
