My mom just bought an 09 Liberty. I know that the 3.7L engines used 51516 Wix filters, but for 09 it looks like they use a 57045. I don't know what the difference is, and the Wix website is not working. Anyone know what is different and why they changed? I see the thread size is the main difference. I wonder why they changed?

Edit. The Site is working now...

Mainly it is the thread size. All the 2009's take the metric 22 thread.
It actually looks like a good filter. This one had about 4000 miles on it.

This time I have a LuberFiner filter on it, so I'll be cutting it up in a few months.

To drive you crazy, best I can figure...

I'm sure there's some corporate rhyme/reason to what they do, but it sure makes a lot of people's stock obsolete (picture a company with a large, mixed year fleet) at best, confusing at worst, overnite...

I understand that it is a Mercedes designed or influenced engine with more than just filter differences from the previous 3.7. But I really don't know.

While they were at it they should have put it in a place a little easier to access. I have the 08, and the filter is a PIA to service.

My mother has an 09 Nitro with the 3.7 and they did relocate the filter. It is very easy to access now.

Keep up to date with the OEM filter recomendation. Chrysler has been making several changes in filters over the last few years and have been known to switch filter part numbers and suppliers. IIRC they have made three or 4 changes to the Avenger/Caliber 4cyl filter already.
