Plain jane Walmart dino oil GF-3 is now $.97 a quart!! That does not seem like a deal to me at all!! You do not know who makes the stock for sure or the additive package. You can get name brand for $1 quite often and know who made the oil and the additive package etc.......

My local Walmart has just begun to carry Exxon Superflo for .94 a quart while the ST went up to .97 a quart. I would take the real one over the generic especially when the price is lower.

WM here is getting $2.01 for dino Pennz, QS, Castrol and Valvoline

Looks to me price of reg dino goes up and that Mobil 5000,7500 and 15,000 mile deal may start making consumers look into that direction. Extended OCI is the name of game. Amsoil been doing for so many years(on the label). I went to Walmart the other day to check how the consumer reads the label. They'll check Castrol Startup, Pennzoil HM and then Mobil's 5000 and EP. He looks at the display on Walmart and they are curious on oils that aren't the regular dino. Eye appeal...Marketing is a profession...Synthetic is the way to go.

My Walmart still has Chevron Supreme for $1.28 a quart adn Castrol GTX is $1.16 MC 5000 is something like $1.49 or $1.69.

What the average consumer READS on the label is what he purchase and it may mean something to him. What one's read as warranty is another thing as Doug Hillary will state in his experience. Mobil is base on warranty as with Delvac 1 on a commercial level...I think not.

Oil prices are up everywhere, not just at Wally World. Just a few months ago I was getting Havoline for $1.19 a qt, now it's $1.58. I'd just like to know why oil prices are increasing so much.

Notice the price of crude oil lately? (Maybe think about the price of gasoline, if that work fo you).

Take a look at trends there, and I think it makes sense that motor oil prices are headed up a bit too.

I am the dept mgr at a Walmart in south Texas.... Yes, the Motorcraft products are on the way out. They haven't told us if Walmart is dropping it or if Ford just wants to sell it at the dealers or something. Maybe they're mad at each other, who n=knows.

And as far as the prices are concerned, each store's dept managers are suppose to go out and comp shop the competition and be sure the high volume stuff is checked. They enter the competitors prices in the system and the next day they usually send us price changes and get the price down to beat the locals.

Well, considering that just about every oil available was $0.39/qt. in 197x and M1 was $5.95/quart when it came out ...I'd say that refined oil has held up well over 30 years of inflation. Min wage was $1.80 at that time ..and a "GOOD" job paid $5/hr.

Considering how much superior the current products are compared to those of times long gone ...I'd say that they're all a screaming deal.

The sales at auto parts stores almost always beat WalMart oil prices. For example, Kragen has Chevron Supreme at $.99/quart with coupon plus a mail in rebate that gets the final price down to $.59/quart.

The Gilroy, CA WalMart everyday oil prices are very similar to those of the AutoZone just across the highway from them.

For most motor oils, WalMart is not a bargain priced place to shop.

I think you will find that the GF-4 oils drove the prices up bc either the base is a higher (or all) Group II or the additives are more robust to meet the standards. So you see all the Havoline priced at $1.69 and the GF-3 right in the same shelf also $1.69 when 2 months ago they were $1.19

The local Costco has Formula Shell for $12 a case.

They used to have Mobil Drive Clean for $14 a case, since MDC is no longer made they apparently replaced it with Formula Shell.

Wal-Marts old slogan used to be we sell for less.

Wal-Marts new slogan is always low prices.

Happy Motoring All,

I think the relevant question is whether the product at WM is priced at or below the competition in the same market area. Generally, I find it is cheaper at WM.

However, other than lubricants, I will not spend a dime in that store.

Wal-Mart's leverage lies in the fact that they are at the end of the supply chain: in other words, that they front with the consumer, and the transaction of selling the goods is under their control. Therefore, they know what is being sold, and they're able to use that information to tell the producers what needs to be made, when, where. They also know what prices are popular, so they are able to say: "We want to sell this at a certain price. You make it at a certain price, or we're not going to work with you."
