Is there an PCMO that you said you'd never buy again.

It isn't sold here in Spain at least.
But anyhow i personally am very happy with Maxlife, this is my first time using it and the butt dyno says it runs quieter and smoother for sure, and has almost completely stopped a couple oil leaks it had ( On my 1988 Escort )

Not related but after I found my wife dead in the tub 3 years ago from a brain aneurysm.... I refused to go into the bathroom ever again ....i sold the house 2 years later. I shut the bathroom door and never looked inside again.
I'm so sorry for such a horrific loss of your wife. May God bless.

I haven't used a BP or Castrol product since 1998 when BP moved its headquarters from my home town of Cleveland and moved it to Houston. Not to mention it didnt sit well when they rebranded SOHIO gas stations BP.......

M1 AFE 0W-30. I know plenty of people like it but I won’t buy it again. I used it for about 50,000 miles in one of my cars and I started noticing varnish on my dipstick and for whatever reason it seemed to be burning off. After switching back to 5w-30 synthetic of various brands, I noticed a lot of carbon soot was ending up in my oil filter. On one oil change I distinctly remember seeing a clump of what appeared to be sludge in the oil filter. I’m not sure what was going on with the AFE 0W-30 but after switching back to 5W-30 I no longer have that varnish look on the dipstick and the carbon deposits have cleared up too. And the oil level no longer burns off. 🤷‍♂️

That would indicate the oil was doing some cleaning. I experienced the same thing when I ran various M1 grades in my Expedition, which had previously spent its life on what I assume was bulk conventional. It eventually tapered off as I assume whatever it was cleaning up was removed.

Before the AFE I used regular M1 along with other major brands of synthetic. I’d be surprised if the AFE was cleaning up after the regular M1 and others.

Formulation-wise, AFE was the same as regular M1, aside from using more PAO due to the 0w-xx Winter rating from what I recall, though I believe there were some organic components purported to be added to aide in AW performance that may have been added later on, can't recall exactly.

Carbonaceous deposits appearing in the oil filter however are typically a sign of cleaning, usually around the ring land area, which perhaps the lighter base oil blend of the AFE product was better at freeing.

As I said, I settled on AFE 0w-30 in my Expedition after running numerous M1 grades including the 0w-40. The presence of carbon in my oil filters commenced under this protocol and eventually began to taper off after a few years. This was not a vehicle I purchased new and ran a few other synthetics in it prior to the M1 0w-xx products including Petro-Canada and Redline. I believe the deposits started showing up in the filter with the run of M1 0w-40 but my memory's a bit hazy on that now, it's been quite a few years.

I grew up in a Pennzoil family. Always used PYB. I personally had 2 engine failures (spun bearing) and a few family members had as well over the years. I've steered clear of Pennzoil ever since. Was the oil a cause of the failures? Probably not...but I haven't spun a bearing since.

Wow, same with me. Spun a bearing on PP but it was 4 of 7 quarts low. The oil was being burned, not leaking so it was probably low oil that did it. Regardless I just have that attached to that oil now and won't use it again. Do you know if these vehicles had ample oil, or were low on oil when the bearings went?

Mine were in the acceptable range on oil level. I don't know about the others since they weren't my vehicles. But they were all GM engines: 4.3 V6, 350(2), 454, 3.1 V6.
