Price per quart:
Mobil 1: $4.99 a quart
Royal Purple: $7.56
I'm not buying purple oil just for sh!ts and giggles of being able to tell people my car has purple oil in it and add $13.00 unnecessarily for an oil change.
Well, I tried to bow out but seeing as people are commenting directly to me...
Not only are the prices I list reasonable they are in fact actual prices as of this morning being charged at the places mentioned. I didn't set or make up those prices. They are what actual qts cost right now. Is basically $10 a qt for RP unreasonable? Sure seems it to me and I would agree. However, if you say that then you must also say the same about all the other $9-$10 a qt brands too. M1 is over priced, Valvoline Synpower is overpriced, Castrol Edge is overpriced, etc...
People are always saying RP is more money. That is just NOT true as a blanket statement the way they make it. Take away the 5qt jugs at Wal-Mart aspect and it is no more expensive than the other name brand oils. If you shop around a little you can match or even beat those 5qt jug prices from Wal-Mart as well( I gave prices I have paid the last 2X's earlier ). That is my point.
Not everyone buys oil at Wal-Mart. I wish people would realize that. The oil prices in those 5qt jugs sold at Wal-Mart are unique to that store chain and should not be used to generalize about the cost of oil everywhere. Unfortunately, here at BITOG, Wal-Mart 5qt pricing seems to be all people can see/talk about. Oil costs more when purchased elsewhere. RP is no more expensive than name brand oils elsewhere. RP can be bought elsewhere in deals that match or even beat those 5qt jug prices. All of that is true but it is totally ignored at BITOG. Why?
I buy oil by the qt bottles and I am here. I know of many people( not saying here )that buy oil in qt bottles. Do you think that only BITOG members buy oil? Lots of people with sumps smaller than 5qts who do not want that extra oil left over so they buy qts. Lots of people with sumps greater than 5qts who buy the extra qts to make up what they need. It is not crazy like you make it out to be.
If someone buys RP for the color they are an idiot. I certainly hope you aren't implying I do. I buy it because I have years of experience using it and seeing excellent results.
Your post is very typical of the BTOG mentality about RP. Ill mannered, rude, arrogant, and I daresay uninformed. IF cost is so important to you then why are you paying so much buying those overpriced 5 qt jugs of M1 at Wal-Mart when you can order Kendgall GT1 synthetic for $3.96 a qt shipped. Man those 5 qt jugs of M1 are way overpriced.
Cost isn't everything. I'll pay good money for an oil my car needs. To be honest I paid over $11 a quart for the oil that's in my TDI, but that's because I wanted to change the oil and didn't look online/ want to wait for it to be delivered. I personally do believe I have an advantage with the oil I bought for a high price for my car, because it's almost I possible to find an oil in stores that meets my car's oil specifications. So what's the advantage with Royal Purple? I have never heard that Royal Purple is better than a typical synthetic oil like Mobil 1. What about it is better, if you don't mind me asking?
