I have not seen verifiable information of the contents of RP base oils. To say it's PAO or Grp III is simply supposition. Ask Royal Purple and see what they say. That's always interesting.

ok, so one guy has an isolated incident and everyone else is doomed to follow? You can find at least one horror story involving every oil out there. Heck, you can probably find one story for each on this board. Terry has stated his customers have had great success with RP products. Considering that is his job, i'll believe him that RP makes good products. RP isn't any better than any other big name out there but it definitely isnt any worse.

I certainly belive it is at least equal to the best on the market. My car isn't as noisy using RP, I get better than automotive mfg gas mileage ratings and it is made in Texas.

I read a post here a while ago, or via the search function, where a guy noted he had 4 or 5 times more bearing wear w/ Royal Purple.

That would be me with my wife's 2000 Civic. I ran a couple of intervals with RP and the lead numbers were 5 times higher (10ppm vs 2) than they were once I switched it to GC 0w30.

RP isn't a bad oil, but it's not great either. To answer your question, no it is not better than M1 or PP. Their racing oils are a different animal.

Hi:
I recently emailed RP regarding the issue of Group 3.
Their reply was that they use no Group 3 at all. The basestock is Group 4 along with some Group 1 additive carrier oil. I assume that is alot like the old Mobil 1 was.
Hope this helps.
