The XG is a nice filter ... I'd have no 2nd thoughts of using one, but have to say it's the only FRAM oil filter I like.

I've been using an Extended Guard in my Liberty since November 09 (XG3600). Currently 4K KMs on it running GC. I will cut her open probably in May. I don't wanna go more than 6 months on the same oil/filter. Doing a 6K KM/6 month which ever comes first OCI.
 
I use TGs all the time. At the $5 price point, a good bang for the buck. I thought XGs were more like $10. I barely spend that on my oil.

They're $8-9 around here depending on where you go, close enough. I wouldn't pay full price for them, but I got mine on sale and that's when I'll use them.

That is a well made filter. If Fram thinks a filter this solid is needed for long OCI, I think it indicates the extra guard and tough guard are barely adequate for regular OCI.I'd bet the center core is steel, and maybe aluminized or some other coating.

If Fram would make a filter with metal end gaps and a better bypass valve in the extra guard and tough guard line, they would have a great filter for the price.

Until then I'll stay with Purolator, Wix, STP, and AC.
