Indiana State Police Durangos - HEMI Oil Coolers

What happens when they fail?
When the oil cooler failed on my old 5.4L f350, it pumped 6 quarts of oil into the coolant in less than 150 miles. I only noticed and checked the (dry) dipstick because there was a weird frothy mixture under it. It was coming out of the overflow.

Same failure mode as yours.

Maybe I missed it but does it state if these are spec`d with the actual hemi or the pentastar V6 with the known gruesome oil coolers.

Yeah, doesn't seem to say in the article, so that's a good question.

Here’s a screenshot from a news report. Also, they were interviewing a trooper about his Durango and there was a clip of him starting it. I could tell when he started it that it’s a HEMI. I hear that sound everyday.

Edit- After watching several different reports on this, every report had Durango’s with hoods up, clearly showing a HEMI.

Good to know. I know ours are a mixed fleet, some are Pentastars, others HEMI's.

So what I’m gathering here is that the problem lies with the cooler that’s specific to the “police pursuit packages”. So fleet vehicles, other than police, will not have this specific cooler.
These coolers aren’t on your run of the mill 5.7l.

Our local CDJR dealer has one in the pen. Our chemical guy came by and as we were discussing this bit of news, he told me about the dealer having one of these Durango’s with an engine problem.
