As mentioned the 2.5L Duratec is kind of a dog but they run forever if maintained. I had an escape several years back that we sold at 220k and it still ran perfectly with no oil consumption.

I but that fusion In a heartbeat for that price.

Next most pressing matter is the exhaust leak, soon I'll break out the smoke machine and find the leak
MPG currently is 21.98
Not bad, but I kinda expected better 🤷‍♂️

It's away on a little vacation to literally the worst Ford dealer in the US 🙄
For it's Takata drivers inflator recall
They go on a whole spiel about how they've gotta take the dash out, and I'm killing them because I didn't make an appointment
I reminded them it's the drivers inflator that pays 0.4, I got blank stare 🫣
They screwed up the floor mat recall, I called Ford corporate and NHTSA, no one wanted to help
I'm gonna lay into the service manager hard when I pick it up, I swear they must've had super tech Stevie Wonder 👨‍🦯 on the job
...and the wiring they damaged when they had the dash out for the passenger inflator 😒
I've got the recalled part number, replace them
They're so bitter over $58 worth of floor mats 😳
I'll slam them online, surveys, my union meetings, whatever need be, my co workers are a known quantity at this dealership, I don't think they'd want to lose that business 🙁
It can sit there for all I care, because literally no parts I've ordered have showed up correctly

Incredible work man, enjoy seeing it unfold. I did forget on my old 2010, the City mpg wasn't that impressive around 21-24. Hwy was around 28-30 with ATH of 34 once randomly.

Got it back from the dealer, with new drivers airbag inflator
They did give it a quick wash, which was nice of them, but they still can't comprehend they screwed up the floor mat recall
I'm gonna call the service or general manager before I slander them online
Service writer couldn't care less 😒

The correct blower motor arrived from RockAuto today, so I swapped that in
No more irritating chirp at low fan speeds

Under the Ford revised part number, is the same made in Vietnam sticker as the factory unit
The motor is unbranded, but the wheel is stamped Delphi 🤷‍♂️
Let's see how long it stays quiet 🤫

I cannot emphasize how much nicer this car is to ride around in with a quiet blower motor

Imagine how it'll be once I find the exhaust leak 👨‍🦯

Current fill up has it at a rather disappointing 20.7 MPG, but that's still an improvement over the Camrys 17 😮

Maybe I'll learn to slow down a little more

A second attempt at parts is coming this weekend, we'll see where that takes us 🤌

Well, it's been 1 month and 1,000 miles
It's still going, so there's that 🤷‍♂️

So far I'm still getting ~20 MPG, and I'm into it ~$750 or so
Of course the sunroof and heated seat (things I enjoy) need attention 🙄, but I'll get there

Took it for a nice ~150 miles cruise through Northern NJ and back, does the cough speed limit 👀 quite nicely
For a smaller engine, it cruises high speed quite well
Once you get up to speed, it holds 75+ smoothly and quietly
I still think this platform was really punching above it's class for refinement
Once I find my lost tube of Shin Etsu, I'll probably give door and sunroof seals a quick once over, would probably be even more refined

I think this era of Ford had the big stuff mostly right. So the critical engine and trans and driveline stuff seems to just work. The rest of the parts/design aren't toyota corolla/camry grade. But the Ford never leaves you stranded, so if you don't mind replacing the small stuff its not a bad car. I'd never recommend the older Focus or Fusion to someone who likes everything to work well, and takes the car to a mechanic though... The repair bills to replace some of these $12 parts ford cheaped out on would get pretty huge! I had a 2007 Focus wagon before and its quite amazing how consistent the build and part quality is though, they have had almost all the same problems at the same mileages...

Sunroof operation is much smoother/quieter now
And I hope I've got the sunroof leak solved, by RTVing the right holes
It was dry when I went through a car wash today 👍
Now all I need is the external accessory wind deflector, and I'll be all set
That can wait until warmer weather 🌡️

The phone mount is installed, and the dashcam has been ordered
