I know what you mean. My e34 has an oil leak around the oil filter canister I need to take care of. I just like the way they drive.

I realize that any e39 I purchase would require a fair amount of work to bring it up to the quality I want. I also want the car only have around 80,000 miles. Fat chance.

I like 2011 Rio5 for some reason. Looks simple and practical
But I'd probably have to get a 5spd mid 2000's Corolla like BillinUtah's. Good mileage, relatively quick, and I could find some the of Corolla S suspension goodies to sharpen up the handling.
If I had months to look and research I would go for something more interesting. G35 Sedan? Lincoln LS? Maybe find a good indy BMW service shop in town and get a 3 series wagon?
The only suspension goodies on the Corolla S are 16 inch wheel. The Corolla offers one suspension setup.


What?? I am not sure where you are looking....but....wheels are only a fraction of what is available. After market shocks, springs, sway bars, strut bars, chassis braces...just a few of those items and its a different machine. For some of the years an after market supercharger was available. There is tons of stuff for these cars.

Bigger/more $ would be an X5 diesel, a Q7 diesel, an RX450h, etc.

Not necessarily. Mine is at 79K miles right now.

I had an oil filter housing gasket leak as well as valve cover gasket leak both taken care of, but now the oil is dripping from somewhere again. Potentially it's the oil pan gasket seeping this time, but it's no small job to get to it, so I'm procrastinating...

Other than that, it's in decent shape, although I'm sure the OEM sport suspension could use a refresh by now.

I'd walk right back to the dealer I bought my Frontier from and buy another one exactly the same. It's been an absolute dream for me so far.

If the CR-V got totalled today, I'd buy a new CR-V. No questions asked.

If the MDX got totalled today, we'd probably replace it with a Pilot. We have talked about that before, and I'd like my wife to consider an Odyssey, but I think she likes the SUV (after having owned two minivans before the MDX). So probably a Pilot.

Seeing that I'm in love with my mom's Miata, I'd probably hunt down one in the best condition that the insurance check can afford. Probably 2nd gen and hope that the minivan in the family can make up for the lack of practicality. It'll at least have better gas mileage than the Max.
