Tell me why not to buy a 2025 Nissan Altima

CVT always gets a no from me.

I’m gonna go with an unconventional (for BITOG), and far more interesting, suggestion:

Have you considered the Sonata (2024+) or Kia K5?

The Kia would be the sportier of these mechanical twins, with the Sonata being more lux.

They have an 8-speed torque converter automatic, and the more powerful turbocharged N-Line variant has an 8-speed wet dual-clutch auto.

I know Hyundai has gotten a bad rap here but they’ve come a long way since the days of the Thetas that were a ticking time bomb.

I have an Elantra N for almost a year and 19,000 miles now with no issues.
Sports variants seems to be the way to go to avoid boredom: R, GTI, Namyang, Gazoo Racing, M2 ...
The mainstream midsize sedans are all variation of pair Buster Brown shoes. Yawn

I think the little Hyundai VENUE is the sweetest little thing - if it wasn't for the roof boom. That 1.6 NA is not to be overlooked. Why Hyundai! Maybe the one I test drove had a panel tweeked in stamping. I will try another - maybe today.

My father's brand new Porsche in '83 had that irritating issue. It "oil -canned" whilst travelling over uneven pavement.
The dealer fixed it by beating the floor pan with a sledge hammer, LOL. But Nice paint Champagne over Chocolate.

I seem to be missing terribly the sport varaint of a sedan or hatch with a MT and just a modest $1500 -2000 upcharge for: a better tuned suspension, nicer bucket seats, higher rate springs, thicker diameter swaybars. less restrictive exhaust. Add a bit nicer wheel and tyre package and those chin and rocker extensions. Stripes and decals optional but absolutely worth magnificent horsepower gains!

The Mfg Manager at my last job leased Altimas (36mo.) The CVT trans failed on every one of them during the lease.
We used to compare notes on the 2.5L aluminum engine racket during the warmup drive. The ECU would run the engine at high RPM to warm up the trans fluid when it was sub freezing. Engine did not like this. Tore filters. I even put a larger high flow expensive Honda parts S2000 Filtech and it ripped that too. You have seen the photos.

I had a 2019 Rogue that would do 30mph at 2500 RPM mornings below freezing. It was the only thing I disliked about that car. It was like driving my Jeep at 30mph in 4lo.

The torn filter is odd. I’ve had three Nissans with the 2.5 and never once had a torn filter. I hated the valve clatter at startup, but this is the first I have ever heard of torn filters, and I was on the Nissan forums rather actively.

It was odd considering I don't warm up the car excessively in the Winter, and it got a long 23 mile commute one way to boil off moisture. API/ILSAC was still figuring out formulation for E10 -E85 fuel issues- the period of mahogany colored oil and maybe some gooey varnish that jams up paper filters.
IIRC your '19 was redesigned for 0W20. I dont know if the put roller followers with lash adjusters - or if that was just on the Altima sedans. Mine was 5w30 and simple SUB solid cam DOHC with a ton of valve lash cold. A real clacker.
Have a good one - Ken

I have nothing negative to say about the new Altima. They are a very solid car and a great buy. They can be purchased new for a fair price. IMO, a great midsized sedan that makes good financial sense.
