Identify this spider

My family were vacationing (cabins-white water canoeing) in the Smokey Mountains when our kids were 10 and 8. Our daughter woke up one morning with a scarlet red whelp on her shoulder. Wondering what could have bitten her, I pulled all the bed covers back and found a very small spider in the bed. Of course we treated the area with standard OTC meds however within two days she had a severely swollen bite area with an infectious
oozing wound. Straight to the doctor for antibiotics and high strength creams etc. She’s 37 now with a crater in her shoulder. That spider bite took months to heal. We would think it was fine only to have these reoccurring infections at the bite area. So needless to say, I hate spiders.

I got bit years ago by a brown recluse. I still have the reminder on my leg. got antibiotic and cream and the dermatologist had me wrap wet gauze on it with plastic wrap over that for like a month. Has about a 3/4 inch size low spot on my leg that is bright colored. I get reminded about it each time I shower and when I put on my socks. Doc said to use Doctor Palmers cream from DG the rest of my life.

The apple image lookup tool suggested Latrodectus variolus

That reminds me that I haven’t posted any images of Bella the redback spider lately.
Good post. When it was still alive it had a strong resemblance to that photo with its legs. It crunched up after the bug spray.
I was leary of it since moving south many years ago I saw my fair share of black widows. One time under the cover of our boat, I reached under to take it off was my first experience. My hand entered this finely knit web that like sticky paper stuck to my hand, pulled my hand out and looked and there was the spider with arrow glass.

2 years ago moved into a brand new home and I swear, I think I had three of them in each corner of the garage minus one corner.

So anyway, now leery of them I saw this guy and who knows if anymore under a pallet from a delivery of bagged mulch in my driveway. I had to slip my hand between the boards to move it now that I got the much off it. After seeing they I sprayed the bottom to be safe before picking it up.

Anyway, I guess it also could be that corncob spider but whatever it was, it was close enough in those photos not to take chances.
The part that sort of makes me think it wasnt corncob was it didnt have "diamond" pattern. Looked more like your photo.

Anyway, thanks to every one for their thoughts. .... AND ... here we are a year or two later I see some spiders in the corners. I'll take a closer look, post photos if I see the familiar close knit silky nest of the black or brown widow.

I have had a brown widow living in the same spot in my garage for what seems like 2-3 yrs. I doubt it's the same spider but still.
