It's not just fast food - I recently tried 3 times to get my insurance to reimburse me for new glasses. The first 2 people I talked to (this is after my first to attempts at faxing the claim in failed) made me go through all the official hoops each time, only for my faxed claim form to end up in the abyss each time. Finally, the last person I talked to was not only extremely nice and willing to help me out, she waited by the fax machine for my claim form and submitted it herself. She also got me $10 bucks in interest for them dropping the ball and me waiting for my claim!

It's rare when you find someone in a big company's customer service department that is more then a seat warmer.

I might actually have to finally agree with you on something.

Same here. In fact, I ran into something today that just boggles me. One of the crack programmers in the department needed rates and the populations for some surveys that were done, so I gave her the numbers. She comes back later to ask me for the count of people that were positive for the surveys, and I said that she could derive the number by doing the math -- if I gave her a rate of 71% and the population was 200, then if she takes .71*200, she'll have the number. Instead, she complained to her boss who then came over to my desk to ask that I give the actual numbers.

No wonder the area has to constantly redo things....

If I'm alone...no problem. Maybe even the wife...no problems.

Throw the kids in the mix...forget about it. Never right. Ever.

To Their Credit: At the busier places, it takes more mental stamia to keep all that [censored] in order (for hours in a row) than some of you may realize. But it dosen't excuse how often they [censored] it up

I have to eat at McDonalds every few months just to remind myself why I don't eat there. The shop mechanic brought back mcdonalds, ate maybe 4 bites, then threw that stuff into the parking lot. Garbage.

I used to eat at BK, Wendy's etc.

Chick-fil-a is tops. Taco Bell is good too. Only if staffed by hispanics, seriously. When white or black people work there things get made wrong, poorly and slowly.

When that happens (and yes, it happens some times), my wife usually takes their names, congratulates them for the good service she received, and always find a way (phone, email, etc..) to let their manager knows that these particular individuals are good assets to their company and to take good care of them.

It is important to not just call the manager to complain, but also to emphasize the fact that you can have good service soem times.

I really like this kind of thinking (positive reinforcement) and I try to do it also when I can.

To let you know the background of the whole story, she used to work in the phone reservation department of an airline, and was so good at finding the customers good deals on flights than some wanted to deal only with her after a while,... and some contacted her supervisor to let him know how good she was.

With gas at $2.80, filling a 20 gallon tank twice a week gets expensive. Most of the folks can't write that expense off, either.

Around here, there are houses selling for $40k. Not handyman specials. A $100k house is a very nice house that would go for 3-4x the price anywhere else.

So, the folks who have jobs around here tend to hold onto them. The way to do that is by being helpful. The guy at Lowe's told me the difference between 2 cans of spray foam, and was right.

You're lucky then.

There was a burger king here where 2 employees got arrested for putting pills in people's hamburgers. No idea why they were doing it.

Taco Bell is not good.

Just ask them to show you the "meat-hose" sometime. That's how they move the industrial grade reconstituted meat like substance.

Taco Bueno: Acceptable fast food. [ very angry obscene word ] service
Taco Casa: Generous servings of acceptable fast food. Mediocre Service
Local taco truck: Awesome tasting food. Friendly service from a guy who likes what he is doing and is probably his own boss. Possible food-borne illness but the authentic tacos are worth the risk.

I'll agree with that! Taco trucks ROCK. I eat at one several times a week - simply some of the best Mexican food you can get anywhere. This particular truck is on the shortlist for that Food channel show about food trucks.

Our McDonalds is in a smaller College Town. Quality of the help is pretty good. No reflection on the OP bc it did take 3 tries to get it right....but some folks expect service like a 5 Star Restaurant

Aside: I'm a health food nut and I hate myself when I go to Mick D's ..which I do frequently.

It is not just fast food places. Look at any government service, especially police. The fire department seems to be the only people who can do their job. This country has become a pathetic joke.

You are taking a big risk with those taco trucks, they have the worst sanitary conditions known to man, i'm hispanic and I would never eat off one of those roach coaches, personal hygeine is not high on their list.

Here in SE Michigan they are a rapidly growing segement...along with our growing Mexican citizenship. Anyway, the Detroit News just did a big article on them and according to the State Health Dept, they are subject to the exact same regimen of inspections and food control guidelines. Whether that is adequate or the trucksters follow them is another story I imagine.

Non-sense. You can look up their state health inspection reports online here. There has also been several articles in our paper about them as well. The good ones are well known, have a HUGE, and I mean HUGE following, and I've never been sick eating from one. I can't say the same for taco bell - my entire family got hepatitis from a taco bell several years ago.

The one I go to usually has dozens of people (mostly professionals in business attire non the less!) waiting there at noon Mon-Fri. The best, most authentic Mexican food you can get the guy who runs the truck is awesome. I even eat ceviche from there on a regular basis.

I guess it depends on the truck - I don't think I'd stop at one if I didn't know their reputation.
