Well, after spending several days talking with my friend Terry Dyson, I took the plunge. The UPS truck showed up today with a case of 5W-20, 10w30, ATF, 2-gallons of 75W-90, and a case of injector cleaner from Renewable Lubricants (RLI).

The 5W-20 and ATF are going in my two Honda Elements and the 10w30 and 75W-90 are going in my Jeep Wrangler.

I usually do not experiment with oils, but I stepped off the deep end on this one.

I am using Amsoil EaA and EaO filters purchased through Pablo.

I sure hope my retirement checks don't start bouncing.

To make sure we understand the sentence - are all the products RLI ? Your sentence clarifies that the Injector Cleaner is RLI - but just want to double chk on the others before we tell you you've jumped off the deep end.

i'll have to save my used RLI and try it in the turkey fryer.

RLI out of the 5.9L Cummins should add a smokey flavor to that 40 lb Thanksgiving bird

This is very interesting! Can you please expand on what Terry told you, to make you take the plunge? I'm thinking for "Pennzoil Johnny" to do this, is like Hillary Clinton suddenly endorsing the McCain campaign!!!

Johny...do you tow or wheel with your Jeep? I run the 75W140 synthetics in both the front and rear of my rubicon. Hopefully all goes well with your experiment keep us posted.

I will try and answer some of the questions. All products listed above are RLI bio-based products. My Jeep will still have the Chrysler ATF+4 in the transmission and transfer case. The Jeep sees very little off road driving and I do not tow anything with it. At the present time (until Saturday) my Honda Elements have 5W-20 Platinum in them and the Honda Z-1 ATF. The Jeep has 10w30 Platinum and Mobil 1 75W-90 in the front and rear differentials.

Buster sent me a PM on this and I will copy and paste my reply to him. Should answer the question about my plans. As for as driving conditions, the Element my son drives sees a lot of highway miles, my wife's Element sees about 90% city driving, and my Jeep is about a 50/50 mix. Here is my reply to buster.

"Terry had nothing but good things to say about RLI. What got me thinking about trying this was all of the Audi test that were being shared here. After talking with Terry and Bill from RLI I decided to take the plunge. Time will tell. I'm going to run it in each vehicle for 5K without taking a sample. Then on the second run I will start pulling samples out ever 4K to see where I'm at. When Terry says it's time to change, I will. To be fare, I'm going to run this product for a minimum of two years to get a trend, but first sign of trouble and out it comes.

I normally don't do things like this but I figure I owe it to Terry due to our friendship."

Maybe Mr. Dyson feels the RLI products are better than Amsoil, Mobil 1, Pennzoil Platinum, and the others????
With all the used oil analysis he see he must know something we don't!

No doubt it is good oil, but would it really do any better than conventional oils in daily drivers? The used oil analysis that we have on this board show otherwise. A lot of cost for little gain.

If you have a high performance car it might well be a different issue.

Terry really does like the RLI oils. From what I understand, they have a unique ability of fighting wear when fuel is present and can clean very well while lubricating.

I have no idea how good RLI products are, in fact I never heard of them until coming to this board. For me Pennzoil conventional, PP, Havoline, and Mobil 1 have been doing a great job!

I look forward to the report as well.

Are any of your cars still under warranty?

Johnny, on that second run you said you'd take samples every 4k and chg it when Dyson labs says. So you are conceivably going long drain with that fill? Is there any kind of guestimate on how far it might go?

I have no idea how good it is either. I've never had any problems with the Platinum. Thought if I was going to try something different it might as well be something way out there.

None of them are in warranty.

Here is what the fuel additive says:

For maintenance: use 1 oz per 15.6 gallons of gas. For clean-up: use 2 oz per 15.6 gallons of gas. This is a Highly Concentrated Formula, 1 gallon will treat 2,000 gallons of gas. Severe Clean up: double treat rate can clean injectors in one tank of fuel, but intake valves and combustion chamber deposits may take up to 4,000 miles at double treat rate. For intake valve sticking problems a maximum treat rate of 12 oz per 20 gallons may be used. Meets BMW Standards for "Lifetime" Protection.
