Hi all. New to forum. 2 months ago life was good. Took my 2009 Ram SLT Hemi to local dealer every 5000 miles for oil change. Not sure what oil dealer used and I didn't really care. But I unfortunately was googling some info for rear diff fluid one day when a BITOG link displayed. I clicked and now I'm hooked. Who knew there were so many motor oil fanatics? Ive become one. My wife even says so. Shes not as fanatical about oil but I love her anyway. Just wanted to get established myself and for selfish reasons get some input/ approval for my truck. Here goes:

2009 Dodge Ram 1500 Crew Cab 4X4. Almost 60000 miles.
All changes in past done at dealership every 5000 miles or so. I no longer want to use dealer anymore.
At 57000 miles I used Mobil 1 and #57899 white wix filter. Everything good. Was planning to change at 3000 miles first time due to dealership changes in past.
I picked up PU 5w20 last night at walmart and plan to keep using wix filter. Will change every 5-6000 miles.
Good combo? Lots more PP plus at walmart-approved as well? ( unsure if local walmart stopping PU carry)
Looking forward to hearing from anyone. Also "Hemi tick" didn't improve with M1. Warm idle RPM same as dealer fill. Country/city drive 40 miles total. Lots of stop and go traffic. Occasional interstate. Lots of cold morning idle. Hope I didn't leave out anything.

Guilty as Charged.

Speaking of wives, my wife minored in chemistry and microbiology so he understands (well, tolerates) my obsession with lubricants.

When I come up with a new formulation the first question she asks is, "Is that an exothermic (heat producing) reaction?"

My response is, "well, not much!" She just rolls her eyes.

That has me wondering, how many women are active Bitogers??

Regards, JC.

First change at 3k miles with Mobil 1 is good idea to clean out the engine. But doing 5-6k miles with any synthetic oil, especially with top of the line PU, is way too short. You should be able to extend OCI to 10k miles or longer.

Hello, You wrote in the subject line: "i blame people like you"

You are now a person like us. Resistance is futile.

If you have an oil analysis done AT 60,000 miles, you'll move to the head of the pack-seriously. Kira

Welcome to the club! Good combo, should go 7500 easily, as mentioned.

Must say I miss WV...WVU '85.

OH, and.

Thanks for the welcomes. You all seem to be decent people. Concerning oil change mileage I am concerned in going past 6000 mile because of lifetime powertrain warranty. My oil monitor seems to be on par with 6000 mi. Another hesitation was how many miles can the wix last? Unsure if I should try wix XP filter instead? I am considering oil analysis at next change--60000 mi.

With the lifetime powertrain...I'd stick with the 6k interval.
