Hyundai wants to use RAM trucks

Hyundai really needs a truck. I was hoping something ranger sized or smaller though, to fill the void left when everything grew.

Was hoping though that they'd get that Indian truck with the diesel motor though.

If Hyundai would come out with a cheap true compact pickup, I think it would sell like crazy because that segment has been basically abandoned by almost every automaker. Only the Ranger really remains "compact". I can't understand why the automakers grew every "small" pickup into something not so small (or light).

Oh, actually I do understand. [They thought] We wanted "supersized" EVERYTHING.

Wrong.

Well, if sales figures are anything to judge by, they were right.

Why would they do that? The Titan is already a pretty good truck.

I agree we need a nice compact pickup truck, and make it 4 banger and v-6 option with a diesel 4 cylinder (maybe 3) would be outstanding !! If someone comes up with a izuzu size pu'p I think was the name, of course extended cabs are the rage now, and every time you add one it detracts from mileage, but we need a nice pickup getting 25 mpg. I had a Ranger with 4 cylinder (around 89) no ac from factory constant 27 mpg.

They were, before the whole mess with Chrysler and Fiat hit.

The Titan seemed nice when it came out, but it was quickly overtaken by the other players in the market. Not saying its a bad truck, but the market moved on...

Wrong? Yes. What about the Chevy Colorado and the GMC Canyon?

They're small trucks...

Yep, they are. and the ranger are the only ones left.

Sucks to see compact trucks disappearing. I used to own a couple of compact trucks until I needed a bigger truck to do heavy work. When I retire, I would love to go back to driving a compact truck.

the ranger is, obviously, the "compact". the colorado, canyon, and dakota are mid- size trucks.there are 3 sizes of trucks -- for those who do not know.
ford is allegedly close to a yea or nay decision on building a mid- size truck. soon, we'll see.

What came first? No compact pickups TO buy, or nobody buying what WAS offered? The sales figures for real compact pickups sank because the manufacturers stopped making them.

When I am taking about compact pickups, I'm talking about trucks like the Isuzu P'Up, the Mitsubishi Max/Dodge Ram 50, Mazda's 1980's Mazda built B-Series, and the Toyotas and Datsuns/Nissans before they grew and bulked up.

Yeti has the Colorado/Canyon sized correctly....they are NOT "compact".

If you want small pickups, you should go to Mexico: I went few weeks ago in Cancun and they have plethora of really small trucks, even VW (and I am not talking about the Amarok).

They are basically a compact car where they keep only the two front seats and put a truck bed at the back. Really neat small trucks.

Apparently.... the problem is that you don't know.

The Colorado and Canyon are classified as the same size as the Ranger by the government. They're both ranked as "Small Pickups".

I think you need your eyeglass prescription re-checked.

Nope. The U.S. EPA has the Colorado, Canyon, and Ranger all ranked identically.... as "small pickups".

The Dakota is ranked as a "standard pickup".

mrsilv -- it is you , sir, that needs to check your eyeglass script. put a dakota, canyon/colorado next to a ranger.it's obvious to a higher primate that the 3 examples are not in the same size class as the ranger.as well, you could check the dimensions and wheelbases of said vehicles.
you state "... are classified as the same size as the ranger by the government". your source is your GOVERNMENT ! hahaha.you believe what your government tells you about vehicles. just like the EPA is always so accurate on mpg ratings.these people you believe.if, as you state, per the govn't rankings, that the dakota is a "standard pickup", then what is the ram -- a "super-size" standard pickup? as said earlier, all one has to do is look.you are likely one of the few u.s. citizens that believes what a govn't agency states.
no sense getting into a sparring match on this.we've already gone way off of topic. have a good day.
