Hyundai Ioniq 5 pulls off 2022 World Car of the Year hat trick -autoblog.com

I fully expect ICE (private) vehicles to be taxed off the road as EVs become more affordable and the charging infrastructure put in place.
Yes they have to be taxed, right now the taxpayers are supplementing the selling price of many of these cars in the actual purchase price itself with $7500 rebates.
The EV owners right now are getting away with not maintaining and building our roads, I can’t wait for that to stop either!
In addition non-EV owners will be paying to upgrade the electric grid and power plants.

Taxing for "the common good" is something that's been around for ever. Schools come to mind. My children have been through school many, many years ago-yet I still pay taxes for schools. Attending a Junior College (subsidized by taxes) has allowed me to get a good job and pay ALOT of taxes. I guess we could debate whether the change to "electric cars" will be for the common good. With the famous "inversion" we get in Utah in the winter time-taking ICE vehicles off the road would help-greatly.

This should be a wakeup call for Tesla. If Mercedes Benz can make a 600 mile electric vehicle vs the goofy cybertruck nonsense. I'd still rather have a Brabus tuned twin-turbo V-12 S class aby day.
Well-if you could afford a Brabus fuel costs are a non issue....

There is no "common good" with electric cars. People have had so much smoke blown up their collective rear ends with these tinker toys, it defies logic.

If people want electric cars fine, they can pay for them.... ALL of them.

There is no "common good" if you don't want what they're selling. And it's even worse if they try to ram it down your throat. All under the pretense, "It's for the common good".

Until a vehicle can be charged as fast as filling up a tank of gas, gas will command 75% of the market.
Our EV spends zero time (and miles) going to gas stations. The other cars, well they are always on the lookout for cheal gas. Gotta drive 10 miles each way to get Costco gas... What a waste of time, money and fuel! ICE cars can be too much hassle.

I respect your opinion, but who is ramming an EV down your throat?

You are certainty entitled to your view. But the government is subsidizing the infrastructure-so you will pay for that-whether you choose to own an electric vehicle or not.

I don't mind paying for power plants. We need them. We have for years. It's the government that is blocking their construction. The same government that's pushing EV's.

Yeah I don’t see taxing so people can buy $50,000 plus vehicles as the common good but that’s just me.

Even the government is smart enough to know they have to beef up the grid to make electric vehicles viable.

Glad I’m not the only one that feels this way, what a bunch of garbage people are being fed with my paycheck!

Only partly correct. Gasoline taxes pay a huge role in the construction and maintenance of roads.
This is more of a local and state problem that drastically needs a solution as EV owners are getting away without paying taxes.
One thing for sure you can bet government will find a way! 🙃
