I wouldn't hold my breath on an ILSAC lube having an HTHS that high.

Good point. I wonder how difficult for a GTL base oil with plenty of moly to pass the fuel-economy test if it has HTHSV = 3.4 cP.

Yes, there is the possibility that it's loaded with VII and HTHSV = 3.1 - 3.2 cP. CCS and MRV are looking very good though and we have no evidence of high VII content (small A_Harman index) in PP and QSUD in previous formulations.

I want to try a UOA with a thicker oil. I wish PQIA would test it soon.

Thank you but I'm talking about the new SN PLUS formulation, which is entirely different.

Have you seen a NOACK loss result for the latest formulation of QSUD 5W30?

Nope, and I'm very interested to see the PQIA test results. Previous formulations of QSUD and PP have been very similar in terms of the base-oil performance, including NOACK, for which we don't have the data yet. CCS is much smaller for QSUD SN PLUS. I wonder if that would come at the expense of a much higher NOACK.

Just changed from Pennzoil Ultra Platinum to the new formula Pennzoil Platinum to my 2018 Hyundai Elantra Sport TGDI at last SAT. It's smoother, more responsive and more quiet. When I checked dipstick, it's so clear. Well, I have also put the fuel system cleaner and filled for 2 full tanks V-Power before the oil change.
Very satisfied for the switch.

That's good to hear because I'll be switching from PUP 5W30 to PP Dexos1 Gen2 5W30 on the next oil change.

If it did, then it's possible that the CCS*NOACK product sum could be the same but result in a more volatile oil. Same BOQI but a more volatile oil? If that's the case, I'll pass.

With us getting good CCS and MRV numbers, I'd suspect lower HTHS. Generally speaking, when have we seen a lube that is 5w-30 with those cold numbers while having elevated HTHS? Now, of course, we know there are 0w-30 synthetics in HDEO and A3/B4 and C3, but let's compare within the grade only. The HDEO I'm running now is a 5w-30, with good cold cranking numbers, with an HTHS of 3.5 or greater. Now, the cold numbers are good, but they won't touch an ILSAC 5w-30's numbers. Any 5w-30 I've seen with higher HTHS (HDEO, A3/B4, C3) also has higher CCS/MRV values.

Pennzoil Platinum with PurePlus 5W-30 has BOQI = 54. Therefore, QSUD 5W-30 has a slightly better base oil than PPPP 5W-30, which is certified for A5/B5, reflected in both NOACK and CCS. It's probably not certified for ACEA because it's not a brand sold in Europe...

That's interesting because SOPUS, parent company of Pennzoil and Quaker State, has indicated on numerous ocassions that Quaker State is their "value" oil and Pennzoil is their "premium" oil. Pennzoil uses the GTL Pure Plus process for their basestock, which is not the case for Quaker State.
BOQI !
