Gearing up for my next oil change - 2006 Toyota Avalon 3.5L V6. OEM recommends 5W30.

Live in upper mid-Michigan. Winter temps as low as -10f, few days a winter where it’s -15 or greater.

Should I continue with 5W30 for the winter, switch to a 5W-40/0W-40 for the “winter”?

Thoughts? Opinions? It appears ‘some’ x40 have better added “additive” packs. Sticking with HPL for a few more OC to get my “newly” purchased Avalon as clean as possible over the next few OC. 160xxx miles

Some of HPL's oils have pretty high MRV (cold pumping viscosity) for the grade. Any of HPL's 0W oils would be just fine at -15F, but if you wanted to use a 5W, I'd use the Premium Plus 5W-30.

I really doubt an xW-40 would be of any benefit in the winter.

HPL Performance Plus 5w30. I own some and about to use it.
I just left your area the other day, after spending three days in the Traverse City / Petoskey region.
Will spend a few more this Fall hunting in the Mio to Atlanta region of the Huron National Forest.
