How reliable is the 3.0L V6 vs the 2.2L 4 cylinders in the 1997-2001 Camrys?

No kidding. Although after spending what was probably worth $1k or more of my own time shopping used cars... maybe they are worth that. Crazy times to be in.

I'll find one soon. Just gotta keep looking. There are some nice ones out there. The 200k mile ones seems promising. Brake lines are fresh along with transmission fluid.

Careful if it has new brake lines--hard lines anyhow--who knows what the fuel lines and the rest of it are like. They do have plastic trays around them, so I could see them going (now that you mention it, I should rip mine off), but I want to say, these brake lines were done well with "good metal" and not cheap steel.

They do have plastic trays around them, so I could see them going (now that you mention it, I should rip mine off), but I want to say, these brake lines were done well with "good metal" and not cheap steel.

I don't want the wing but otherwise... dang. [I have a hitch on mine--and use it. Hint: it might say it's rated for 2k towing but it's a bit sketchy after 1k, IMO.] Wife lives green, she's apt to trade her much newer car for that. If it was rustfree and the ac worked, that is.

Eh, I don't mind the spoiler. I just don't like the hitch nor that stupid exhaust tip. Dad actually had a spoiler, pinstripes, and body-color door edge guards put on our old Camry when he brought it

Too funny. I would have been like 23 at that time and a Camry was about last on my mind for buying. Granted I wound up in a base model Saturn, fresh out of college and all. Hmm, from a 2000 Saturn to a 1999 Camry? makes me really wonder about life's choices, lol, I've done so well...

As the owner of a beige Camry with 260k on the clock, worried not I be.

But green is way cooler.

Purely my opinion. I think this is the most robust version of the Toyota Camry ever made. Even with the low mileage I'd never pay anything close to the asking price but this was the golden era for these cars. They went downhill after this if you wanted a reliable car to mile out.

IIRC the I4 automatics aren't bad. The V6 automatics... I know they got fixed eventually, but on the good side, all the bad ones are probably blown up by now.

Manuals I think were fine all years, all motors.

Unfortunately, I forgot how to drive manual cars. I learned how to last year on an ST Focus while I was working at Ford. Never drive a stick car after that so I forgot.

Found a 2002 Accord EX w/128k miles on it. Timing belt hasn't been done. Guy wants $2900. It's been in 3 accidents though

Update: ran the vin on google, guy brought the car from the auction last month for $825.

He fixed the body damage, poorly though.

You really don't want the V6 in this car. Now with the 4 cylinder, yes you want this car, A LOT!!! With the 4 cylinder engine it's one of the most reliable and easy to work on cars ever made.

Yikes at that price tag! I had the same car with the V6, thing was a rocket but loved to go thru rear struts for whatever reason.
