Since there are no reciprocating parts, for the most part a trans either auto or manual doesn't care... It is fairly easy to blow a clutch by downshifting to 1st at high speed... If the clutch doesn't blow and it's reengaged, the engine will likely suffer valve train damage or maybe kick a rod out the side of the block...
