How often do you guys go WOT?

Do you drive an Odyssey? I've heard a lot of bad stories about tranny failures in the Odyssey. Pretty common. And pretty expensive.

Everyday. I drive a 2.2 Camry. 0-60 in like what seems like 3 minutes. This car has noooo power at all. Slow as a turd but good on gas.

Not quite to the rev limiter, but I shift just as the shift alarm gets one or two beeps at me.

Daily. I have a few M's, they're designed to be run to redline. Then there's my built 328, which sees a lot of track time (9k miles in 2.5yrs) where it's running nonstop for hours between 5800 and 8100rpm without stopping.

Oh, and I have opened up the 328 and the motor has zero signs of wear anywhere in the motor.

I believe that the worst thing you can do is drive like a grandma all the time. I would never buy a car that wasn't wrung out pretty hard frequently.

Maybe a few times a week between the couple vehicles I drive. Two have VVT and pull hard all the way up to redline. My truck with the VQ40DE really wakes up around 3.5k. Even a RAM with the hemi can't pull on me.

It would be interesting to know the transmission and differential fluid change intervals of the vehicles that see hard driving daily.

My Civic sees redline wot nearly everyday! We bought the car new 13 years ago, it has been through two teenage drivers, used as a tow vehicle, and generally abused it's entire life.

The Civic is not much to look at but at 220k I think that I am close to getting my money's worth out of it.

Pulled a WOT run in my bros 04 Lexus LS430 with VVT-I you can feel the engine pull throughout the RPM range. Someone who drives trucks most of the time the Lexus can go freakishly fast!

It feels good! I know the Accord is a 4 cylinder but it has some real get up and go especially from a stop, and it pulls all the way up the rpm range. Its in the mid 8's to 60. Feels way better than our 6.0 Silverado thats for sure.

My wife's 50HP Festiva saw plenty of WOT...it went 273,161 miles.

I am one of those that believes that to baby an engine is to do it no favors. An engine that never runs at WOT never gets hot enough to burn off carbon deposits.

I have read a few articles from some engine builders that insist the best way to assure that an engine never burns oil, is to run it at close to red line for several minutes when brand new. They insist that this method is fail proof at making an engine totally free of being an oil burner.

They're right. One of the strongest-running 5.0 Mustangs I ever saw was broken in the hardest: it was a police car! The thing ran 12.90's stock except for a Centerforce clutch & drag tires. It was running perfectly when sold with ~165K.

Shift at redline gets the pass done and it's harmless to your engine.. I've always been a regular go-pedal supporter and my engines have always run great.

There are days when traffic is bad on my way to work, taking into account 2 way trips, I wouldn't be surprised if there are days I am at redline/WOT a dozen times. It is a lot more fun in my current car though, too.

Maybe I'll put my 4wd truck in granny gear and drive to the grocery store with WOT. Don't have to worry about a ticket.

If I do an intentional WOT run, I'll redline it.
A couple of times each week is not going to hurt anything and is a sort of Italian tune-up.
Just make sure everything is up to temperature and avoid forcing WOT downsifts with an automatic. Ease into it and give the trans an opportunity to downshift at less than WOT.
A hard run to redline through two or three gears really works better with a stick and is one of the perks of driving a stick.
We've had some cars where frequent use of WOT was a necessity, not an option.
Our old Vanagon comes to mind, as do our two 123 diesels, although an old-school diesel has nothing that can be accurately described as a throttle.
In a two lane passing situation, you just put your foot all of the way down after selecting the appropriate gear, since you don't want to linger in the opposing lane any longer than you have to.
