ok heres a short run down. I have valve knock, so I went to take it in for a valve adjustment. During the valve adjustment, my mechanic noticed I have sticky Lost motion Assemblies. Here is where MMO comes in.

I was wondering how much MMO I put in if i fill the crankcase up with 4 quarts?

Is MMO a one time use?

For a 4 qt sump I'd use about 24 ounces or 3/4 of a qt of MMO and run it the full OCI. I can be used all the time if you want, although that isn't really necessary.

yep, agreed. If you're all sludged up you'll need the full mojo.

But even on a healthy engine I still like to add it a couple of days before the oil change is due.

Good stuff.

LOL! what kind of engine you are working on (that would require manual valve adjustments)?

If this is indeed the case (manual valve adjustments, such as older Nissan, all Hondas, Suzukis, some Toyotas, etc.), why ?

Q.

Please explain "Lost motion assemblies"???? What is the condition of the engine? What engine? Is it Sludged? How many miles? __Oldtommy

its a honda motor. i dont know exactly what the LMA does but he showed when he pushed down a part it was "sticky". i dont know the exact mileage of the motor as i bought used from japan when my old motor went out.

im not sure i get your question. your asking why i got a valve adjustment? if so i got one because i heard ticking. the valve adjustment helped tons, but he even showed me some parts were sticking so i would need to replace the parts. at $35 each (i would need 8) plus $150 to pull head off etc, id rather try MMO and see if it helps a bit.

It is certainly worth a try, use it as I mentioned above for at least 3,000-5,000 miles. Many have reported it quieting lifers down long before that, but the full OCI really gives it a chance to do some cleaning.

If 'lifters' here refers to hydraulic lifters, I don't think Honda has used hydraulic lifters since the C series 90° v6 and that they discontinued many years ago. Perhaps they continued that engine longer in the RL... Honda gurus here would know better.

The MMO will work well for you. Use a full quart for a 4 qt sump. Use it for 5000 miles. Drive the car long distances as well on weekends or when time permits. Get that oil good and hot, keep it flowing at hot temps. You will get results.

most new engine designs dont have lifters
but almost all have a similar device like a lash limiter to keep from having to reset the lash all the time.
the are basically the same thing inside, as oil pressure rises they "pump up".

$.002

by the way cant wait to try MMO!!!

thanks, im going to do a oil change today and use a full quart. does anyone know if walmart still carries the big jug of MMO? Ive tried two local ones with no luck...

It's hit or miss with Walmart carrying the gallon jugs of MMO. Some stores in my area carry it some don't. Good luck!
