How Many Here Are Turned Off By Electric Vehicles ?

The Charge Point app tells exactly what kWh was delivered to the car. If the amount used is known, then efficiency of the on board charger can be known.

It's not really an, "all or nothing attitude". It's the fact they should be able to directly compete with gas powered vehicles, and they don't. Not even closely. Do they provide somewhat limited use for some people? Yes. But in a head to head comparison against IC vehicles, they're sorely lacking in too many areas.... And most of them cost more.

And the EV "naysayers", are not the one's with the, "all or nothing" attitude. It's the governments who are trying to force these things down everyone's throat by giving dates, and mandates attached to them.
But it is all or nothing attitude.

I drive about 16k miles a year. In the last year I drove to Vegas once and a California trip once. So there would have been 2 times I would have been inconvenienced by an electric car. More for the California trip, the Vegas one would be easy as there's Superchargers along the way.

Everyone thinks they're just going to hop in the car and drive hundreds of miles a day all the time. That doesn't happen. When it does, it's rare.

Drive your other car for that.

One friend drove from San Jose to Yellowstone a few weeks ago in a Model X, super charging all the way and then back.

Does he have to make planned stop and schedule lunch with precision guesswork? Yes. Is it as much fun as you just stop at anywhere you want and check into any road side motel any time you want, eat at anywhere you see off the road you want? Not as much for sure, but it is still a fun trip. You pretty much have to do sit down restaurant dining, instead of McD and keep driving with drivers swap.

However, at least for Tesla they have their charging network very well planned and it would probably be THE reason to buy a Tesla when everyone else in the world caught up in the EV manufacturing. It is not the same as driving a VW bus, RV, motorcycle, horse, gas SUV, gas convertible, etc on the same trip, but it can be done.

No one said EVs are for everyone. I don't get this all or nothing attitude.
By the way, condo and apartment dwellers are asking for charging capabilities.
In Silicon Valley, job candidates are attracted to companies who offer free or subsidized charging while at work.
I have talked to people who say, "I never charge at home."
EVs are not for everyone. On the other hand, perhaps naysayers might open their minds a little.
There is room for all kinds of cars.
Well, I spotted some type of turd this morning on the Interstate and doubt many have 'room' to tolerate that sort of joke. Was an older Honda Insight and not sure if the dude was seriously hypermiling or the turd just couldn't touch the speed limit. In a 65 mph zone where people often hit 85-90 and that thing might have been doing 40-45 tops downhill. Don't care what mpg he's getting, but that sort of thing is a hazard for all those approaching him.

Was that the 1st gen Insight? That thing should have hit 20 year old, and if the battery hasn't been replaced yet, it would be the equivalent of a 4 cylinder car running on 3 cylinder, and should have been junked.

This doesn't mean the newer hybrids are bad or newer 4 cylinders gas cars are bad, it just means the drivers are poor and inconsiderate. By the same logics it would be the driver instead of the cars' design.

I am not sure how the government is pushing anything down your throat...

Look at post #307 for starters. You can bet there is a lot of that type of crap coming in the future. Both here and abroad. If California is already mandating solar panels on newly constructed homes, you can bet they'll be mandating electric cars in the future.

For the government politicians who are pushing them down societies throats, yes. Because the way they're pushing it, you're not going to have any other car to drive.
Are you saying they're going to make people get rid of their gas cars?

What's next, we're going into concentration camps?

Add butt ugly (for the most part) to the list as I couldn't tolerate the design of most EVs offered right now. I'm still surprised so many can tolerate the lame look of the Prius regardless of MPG, etc. Of course to each their own, but ****...
All gas cars and classic cars are beautiful

...theyre not gonna order you to get rid of them. they'll do exactly what theyre doing right now. wreck the economics so bad that you cant afford it. so sure keep your ICE vehicle no problemo ...but gas is gonna cost ya. Maybe get a deisel and run on french fry grease :)

I am looking forward to someday owning an electric car. I just wanted to get that in before the inevitable lock.

That's the European Union, not America. It is a proposal. It is proposing pollution limits.
Yes, CA requires solar panels on new housing projects unless they are in areas not suitable.
The incremental cost of adding solar when building a housing project is very low because of scale pricing vs single dwelling installation pricing.
Electrical is ready, panels are bought in bulk and installed in mass production manner. I bet the cost is a fraction of a single dwelling cost.
Economies of scale...

I pay $9 per month for electricity, which is the PG&E charge to use the grid. That's it. How much do you pay?
For the new housing project buyers, they LOVE their solar panels and low electric bills.
You probably know CA has some of the highest power costs in the nation after Hawaii, right?

Hardly pushing something down our throats. I love my solar; I wish I could have gotten a group price. I would have saved thousands if every house on the street was included in a group purchase deal.
