So lately I've been just getting a grasp on all the little things that need done and stuff that may need done eventually. I like to have a plan and a strategy.
So how does the roof look? I notice some of the "stuff" is in the gutters which to be was a little alarming. Thanks guys all advice and input is appreciated.

They look ok, I'm no expert but they look to me like they are defiantly on their last 5 or so years....

Asphalt shingles always shed those granules throughout their life, nothing to be alarmed about. From the picture, it looks like you have a few years left on that roof. No missing or cracked shingles, they aren't curling up. Might want to check any caulking at any flashing to make sure it hasn't dried up and shrunk.

The roof looks fine.
When it starts to go, you will get curling at the edge of your shingles, which you can notice easily when you pull up to your house, it won't happen overnight, just look up at your roof every so often and you will eventually see.

What I would know (as a home owner) is:

1) Stay off Ashphalt roof when it's hot & sunny
2) Granuals in the gutters is normal.

I had my shingles replaced when the corners were rounding off
and the granuals were missing in 1" areas.

The South side of the house was worse looking than the North.
I had 40 year warranty shingles put on and a Ridge Vent.

You have no curling or lifting of shingles, the shedding of granules is normal, I'm guessing that this roof is 10 to 15 years old?? Your roof is well vented, this aides in roof life , a poorly vented attic cooks the shingles and prematurely starts them curling at the edges and losing the grains faster. you have many years of life left in this roof.

The roof is 9yrs old. I will take a picture from the driveway. Some shingles do appear to be curling.....

it looks fine.

In Arkansas, the odds are that a good hail storm will come along before it's shot.

They will only pay you the depreciated value, though.

I know the front gutter still needs cleaned I ran out of time but will do it tomorrow. I like to keep up on things so they're definitely bugging me.

If they have the asphalt granules covering each shingle and they are flat you are OK. As another poster mentioned, you will loose some granules each year. No nails pushing up.

Things that can ruin a roof, clearing it of snow with the wrong tool, walking on it when its hot, letting kids on it who might tear off a shingle to have it sail in the air with a good throw.

OK, there is a chance I might have "sailed" a few shingles when I was 12 or 13.

Some of them appear to be curling a little though. You can see it in the picture. I am only concerned with that. None were cracked or anything. The edges near the gutters did seen like the shingles were thinner with Less granules on them but not very bad

Due to 3 hurricanes in 6 years (Rita, Humberto, Ike) I know quite a bit about roofs. Your roof still has some life left in it. Do not replace it prematurely! You only want to replace it when you KNOW its bad, and not a day before. Roofs are expensive, and you might get some insurance $$$ if a weather event happens.

As everyone else said, forget the granules, just clean the gutters out and let things be.

how does that work? insurance wont cover it if it wears out I assume. but if hail or tornados or something similar hurt it they will pay a portion to fix it?
I just want to know plenty of time before. like you said its expensive I like to know way in advance if something is going to cost me a good chunk of change.

That roof is fine, I'd say from the pictures it has at least another 5 years maybe more. As others stated if you don't have any leaks or problems with it leave it alone.

You may want to check your home owner's policy or talk to your insurance agent.

My stepfather had damage and home owner policy covered roof replacement. Storm blew off some shingles.

What I know about roofs....If they leak then I would be more concerned.

That new roof my stepfather had leaked. Installer error now fixed.

Old roof leaked around flashing. Installer error. I fixed it.

Looked like it was also installed by a drunken monkey. Prefab house. Staples on outside of shingles. By time I was done it was not as pretty but did not leak.

so how long does the avg shingle roof last? I know pitch helps and ventilation. but what is reasonable to expect?

Shingles have improved over the years. Your 3 Tabs should last 20 years, more or less, depending on climate.

Laminated shingles should last longer.

What do you think I would cost to re-roof your house?
