How can I get a sticker off my valve cover?

I've been cleaning the engine on my Jeep lately. The valve cover was completely covered in grease, but underneath there is still nice shiny black paint. Only problem was, there is a large barcode sticker on the end of it. I removed the sticker, but the glue didn't come off.

It seems to be water and WD-40 proof, and of course has been stuck on that hot valve cover for nearly 200,000 miles. Any thoughts how I can get it off without a belt sander?

You could try peanut butter. (not joking)
Also try heat (it may soften the adhesive).
Just a couple of thoughts.

look for some stuff called goo gone. at wal mart or the grocery store. it wrks well for that stuff. you just soak the adhesive for a few mins the it comes right off.

goo gone and for me, universal carburator cleaner will take about anything off, even use it on the windshield when replacing county stickers etc. Would not use on paint finish though.
