Honda Oil Filter- Short and Fat or Tall and Skinny?

This is interesting from the Premium Guard website.

I remember a TSB from Hyundai/Kia stating to use only oem filters for these vehicles listed.
Not to go too far off topic from this Honda filter thread.

I have used the XG7317 on my son's '10 Forte 2.0L as well as the FE9688 on the Tucson. Since then I bought a 6 pack of (hopefully) OEM Hyundai filters from Amazon. I'm using those on the 2 vehicles now. The Tucson is my warranty concern. Forte is long passed any warranties.

The 6 pack from Hyundai Store is $40 currently. The 1 filter shows Mann&Hummel Korea.

That's sounds like a vehicle issue with the oil pump max pressure control, where any filter mounted to the engine could experience over pressure ... obviously not much "pump slip" going on there. 🙃

PG said: "... there are indications that the filters in question were subjected to internal pressure exceeding 280 PSI. There were clear indication so over-pressurization on filters used on these applications."

With my Civic, I've used OEM filters, Fram XG7317, Premium Guard PG4612EX, Bosch 3323, and others I can't even remember. If any of these are better than the others, I have no clue. Does it even matter?

The XG6607 lists as 2.625 length on Fram website. The FE6607 lists at 2.73 length.

The PG4612EX is listed as 3.05 length......
So the PG4612EX is a somewhat longer that the average Fram shorty 6607 shown. Purolator lists their shorty 6607 equivalent PL/L14612 as 2.9" in length. In my experience primarily with A02 equivalent 7317 most recently with Purolator PL/L14610 and equivalents (Bosch 3323), are 3.5" long and that matches the Purolator specs listing. I also happen to have a couple CQ Blue 84356 (7317 Honda equivalent) here that measures 3.4" in length, using digital caliper. So, while PG longer than the Fram anecdotes, as noted, in my observation not the Honda A02 equivalent 7317 applications. That said, never criticized the choice, just pointing out the difference in length vs 7317 application.

And which is preference now that doesn't have cardboard endcaps or leaking through bypass valve area?

Since most of my changes are happening around 5k, I'm not too worried about a little less capacity from shorter as my motors are pretty clean overall. I change filters when I change the oil.

Based on post use anecdotes and comments on this forum I'd say safe to mention any of the PG or PG made filters like the CQ Premium 84356 or the O'R MicroGard Select MSL57356. And since you seem fine with the slightly shorter version, PG14612EX and option too.
