Honda Odyssey vs Toyota Sienna... or other?

It's sixes---either one is great. Fairly similar vehicles. Honda has more panache and handles a bit better. I went with the Sienna. My 05 has been a great vehicle and is as tight as the day I bought it 4 years ago. I (wife, actually) get 22+ mpg in mixed driving. My LE was much less than the Ody. I needed the power slider and I did not want to go up to the EX on the Honda, so it came down to price and for me it was thousands less.

Absolutely has been fixed. 2005 was the last year to have a few problems. Our 2006 Ody has no AT issues at nearly 50,000 miles. The van still runs and drives well. Just got new tires and the alignment was factory straight.

I'd say the only bad thing about the Ody, the PS pump started to get noisy and Honda replaced it, no questions. I think there is a TSB.

I just picked a Sienna out for our family because my wife demands AWD. Another selling point was the rear seat which is a 60/40 bench, which allows you to fold part of it down, while leaving the rest up to be used as a seat. It is a great van and handles very much like a car. The stability control is standard on the AWD models, making it even more attractive.

I need to correct one thing mentioned in this thread a few times. The Toyota Sienna is 100% domestic. It is not and never has been an import. It was designed in California and is manufactured in Princeton, Indiana. It is currently only available in North America and planned to be, get this, EXPORTED to China by 2010. Do a search for TMMI and you will find that they employ over 4000 blue collar American workers.

I'm pretty sure they all have this. I know my Ody does, as did the new Chrysler variants I've seen. As much as I enjoy our 2008 Ody LX, Sienna is your only choice for an AWD minivan. Sienna toughness also speaks for itself. You see them in Taxi service (Chrysler too out of shear numbers). Can't say that about an Ody.

No AT should have issues at 50k. Id still trust the toyota AT to the honda at 100, 150, 200k and higher mileage. Our previa has 220k and shifts like new (only has had AT services at 48k mile intervals). I definitely won't be trusting a honda AT to shift like new at 200k...

While the Sienna is more domestic than any other minivan sold in the U.S. it has 85% domestic content, not 100%. In the global economy today it would be very hard for any vehicle to achieve a true 100% from any one country.

That said, the high domestic content of the Sienna is an important part of the reason that we bought one. Assembly in Indiana with an engine and transmission manufactured in West Virginia is a definite plus in my book.

I have a 07 Sienna and I am impressed with it. The engine is the most impressive feature. Very smooth with lots of power and even gets better mileage than the Odyssey. But to tell you the truth, I'd buy the one with better incentives.

How did the Flex or FlexB as we call it(Scion xB wannabe) get involved in this? Me and a friend drove a FlexB for fun and we weren't impressed. It's supposed to have 262 hp, there's no way it has that much power. The ride was average, the handling wasn't that great, but road noise was very low. Probably the only good thing about it. Interior is not comfortable, styling is a joke. MPG isn't very good either 17/24. Then one we tested was an SE, it was 34,500.00 and the Limited...43,900.00 rediculous.
Both the Honda and Toyota are great vans. Go drive them both and see which one suits you best. The Toyota is best for me.

Heheheh, no offence, but the above is like me giving an "unbiased" review of a Sienna..... It's just not going to happen. Regardless of how objective I try to be.

We have a 2000 Sienna still running well with 240,000 km, no major issues. Some minor electrical problems with power window switches, heater temperature dial and headlight switch. I changed the battery for the first time last year. Front brakes have been replaced twice.

All major mechanical including Motor, tranny, starter, alternator, exhaust, cv joints, wheel bearings, power steering pump, radiator, water pump, air conditioning system, shocks and struts are all original.

But, I also love my 1994 Honda Accord which is also still going strong with very few problems.
