Below are the current summary statistics:

Summary:
without PIB I am getting 20.32 +/- 1.1 MPG.
n=8, total miles equals 2702

with PIB, I am getting 22.16 +/- 0.57 MPG
n=6, total miles equals 2173


I am finding it curious that the standard errors are not more similar between the treatments.

One needs to calculate p value and confidence intervals. Lets make it scientific!

Well, at this point, I am still collecting data and offering easy-to-digest summaries. If the data are normally distributed, the confidence interval can be estimated from the standard deviation.

There are not enough data yet to statistically determine if the data are normall distributed. With a sufficiently large dataset, I expect that MPG should be normall distributed. We can work from that assumption.

The p-value can be considered as the threshold probability of reaching an incorrect conclusion. Since no conclusions have been made yet, a p-value cannot be determined. Also, the two treatments appear to have different variances. As noted above, I am surprized. However, I would guess that over time this difference will disappear. If the difference does not wash-out, this fact will affect the type of analysis that would be appropriate.

In addition, to analyse the data in the way you suggest, we would have to assume that there are no other factors to consider. However, it appears that MPG is affected by time of year and miles on the vehicle (though those two variable are currently confounded). Over time, if I continue to collect data, I will likely analyze the dataset by analysis of variance. So that I can look for interactions between treatment and, at least, time of year.

I don't think that I can get any more intellectually honest than supplying the raw data. Readers are free to consider the data however they choose (valid or not). The only way that I could make this more "scientific" at the moment would be to not share data and to only offer methods, data summaries, and conclusions at the end of the process. My occupation is scientist. I typically do not share data until after it can be adequately analysed. Since I don't know if I will ever actually complete this experiment, I am offering the data approximately realtime. The risk is that it will be analysed inappropriately and lead some to an invalid conclusion.
 
So, out of 12,000 members, am I the only one is using the GTA HMW PIB product? I realize that it "ain't" lube, but increased mileage and more pep is a good thing. I could really use some independent information - for or against.
 
I am considering a different experimental design. I am considering using my wife's car for the experiment, but doing the whole thing so that she is blinded from treatment. I would do all fuelings and either add PIB or not, but I would not let her know which treatment is in the tank. I could, at least, control for any bias that is being introduced due to my knowledge of treatment. The problem is that my never lets the tank get below half empty (in her mind it is never half full). So, switching between treatments would be difficult.
 
I did some reading on it, and considered ordering, but I was not clear if it was cost effective.
I first heard about it on subaru forums where people would mostly use it to decrease the insane octane requirements of the WRX cars. It worked well for them, but my cars take 87 gas.

This is not a snake oil and State of CA officially recognized the emission decreasing abilities of this stuff.

I did some experiments with acetone and Lucas UCL with negative results. I guess I should try this next.

The blinding idea is very good indeed.
 
Last tank of PIB for this cycle. I am switching to the no-PIB treatment. In an attempt to reduce PIB carry-over, I waited until the idoit light came on that warned of low fuel level.

The GTA-PIB and associated shipping costs add about 13 cents per gallon to the cost of gas. So, as long as gas is more than about $1.30 per gallon (from now on I think), then I am saving money.

Vehicle is a 2005 Pontiac Montana SV6 with the LX9 3500 (3.5L V6). Driving is mostly country roads or small town city. Some stop lights and stop signs. Rarely ever caught in stop and go traffic. Rarely ever get above 55 mph.
 
OK, nevermind. I found a place at usalubrications.com that still lists it for sale.
 
It looks like you can also buy the same product at need4speedpower.com. I like the type of bottle that is shown at need4speedpower.
 
Ordered some today. I'll share my info here if you'd like, though I gather miles at a MUCH lower rate than you these days.

I can't tell what sort of polymer nor what concentration contaminated the Conoco gas. However, I completely agree that HMW-PIB should not be overdosed, shock-dosed, or used haphazardly. The effective dose range is fairly narrow. There are also issues with dirty fuel tanks. HMW-PIB will pick-up trash in the tank and transfer it to the fuel pump and filter. Rusty tanks require caution.

However, with a clean tank and the ability to follow directions, I think that PIB is a useful fuel add.
 
I also ordered from USA Lubrications. I had a bad feeling about them and sent them an email to cancel the order. They did not respond to the email and sent the order anyway. It took two weeks to arrive.
They charged me $19.95 + $11.95 = $31.90 to send to PA from Arizona. I can't imagine a higher shipping rate to any other part of the country.
There is another outfit selling the product that seems more legit (will have to locate them).I beleive the current formulation is a clear liquid.
 
Same here, the guy behing the outfit, Lyman, charged me 12.95 for S&H vs. 8.95 the webside stated. Very arrogant when I tried to complain.

Found this info on NASIC forum, many Subaru folks use this as effective octane booster for their moded cars:

While shipping costs have increased significantly due to the high fuel cost, sometimes the online calculator overprices it.
